PTLE Frame Rate Question??

Hi - sorry if this has been answered elsewhere..but I looked around for an hour and couldn't find an exact answer.

here goes:

I have a new movie I am working on and using PTLE 7.1.1 - my question is do I need DV Toolkir (or another software?) to be able to import the movie file and nudge it frame by frame?

In recording school we worked on several post projects where we were able to nudge frame by frame through the video to get exact SFX placement, but that was an HD rig.

This last summer I did a movie and had to get through it without being able to nudge through by frames (the option simply wasn't in the pull-down menu) and it was a pain to say the least.

So any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

yeah, you will need DVTK2 to get timecode support for LE. before i got it i had the timeline set to samples and had to nudge that way. luckily, when i reimported into HD everything kept its relative timecode position. if you have $1000+ then DVTK will be worth your time.

There is a workaround. If you can find someone to save you a template session with timecode selected as grid and nudge as well as the 2nd clock value it will stay that way when opened in LE (or Mpowered) and all will work as expected. If you try to change any of those away to H:M:S or Bars:Beats or you will lose all timecode grid and nudge and not get it back.

Hint: for those that don't have DVToolkit.

If you're working at 25fps (PAL), change your Nudge value to 10ms.
4x 10ms = 1fr at 25fps. (Give or take)

So, 4 presses of the Nudge keys will move your edit/Audio/fade/whatever 1 frame total.
What's quite nice about this work around is that 1 press is a Qtr fr and 2 presses is a half fr.

Thanks Moofie - I guess that is one way to "workaround" it too - to divide out the frame rate and get as close as possible in milliseconds.

I am working in NTSC though, 29.97 fps.
