i use iTunes to have it search the CDDB. I forget what menu it's under in iTunes but it's pretty easy. Haven't done it in a while.

If you purchased the set recently, it will be Soundminer enabled already. Otherwise you need to use Ripper V4 to get all of the metadata. iTunes will at least get you some stuff, thought I don't know if it gets embedded into the actual file or just the iTunes database.

TwoZ,
How do you get the file from iTunes into SM? Does it retain the metadata that it picked up from CDDB?

" ... if you own any version of Soundminer, or any application that supports the broadcast wave BEXT standard, you can instantly see a full description and other data associated with each file. There’s no need for CDs with cross-referenced text sheets. All the search metadata is in the files and instantly visible in Soundminer.
The effects are delivered to you on a hard drive and you simply drag and drop them onto Soundminer to add them to your database. Descriptions, categories, keywords, metadata information, and much more are all instantly accessible. You can edit, search, audition, process, batch transfer and spot into your workstation. "

Doesn't it work like its supposed to?

As said Starcrash, metadatas are there only if you got the hard-drive release of the sound library (BWF), not the good old CD one.
If you got the CD, you'll have to rip them with a specific tool, Ripper, which holds most of the infos for most commercial libraries.

BTW Starcrash, you're talking about Ripper V4, is it already available (still with v3 here which is a bit problematic on Mac Intel)?

Bye.

Ok, we got good old CDs.

How does this ripper actual work? Where does the program get the metadata from? txt files?

How is the workflow for ripping a CD with Soundminer Ripper v3?
(Need to know before buying a 250$ program)

Was emailing with Steve Pencile(Soundminer) about the ripper :

"....Ripper is only available in v3 version and only for
hasp keys. Since we are only shipping our older version at this
time, you would have to run it on Jaguar, Panther or Tiger only. You
cannot run it in Leopard."

Ripper uses a big database file, regularly updated by Soundminer inc. when new libraries are released.

Insert the CD, choose the library/cd in Ripper (this is not automatic), choose the naming scheme of extracted files (among 5/6 possibilities, from simple PE01_01.wav to Category_FullDescription.wav and mix of these), choose the destination folder, and start the process.
Very boring at first, but when it's done, well... it's done .

[Edit] Note that you'll get many more fields than simple BWF chunks (Soundminer exlusive metadatas, like Category, Designer, keywords, etc.).

Bye.
