Mid/Nearfield 5.1 monitors

In our larger stage we have JBL Screen Arrays and 8 8330s up on the walls for surround as well as a big 18" cabinet for the thump.
Dolby guys came up and signed off and all is great.
However we are going to mix as much or more television in this room than features in the coming year. While my results on TV have been well received with our current monitors, is anyone out there using a B system as well to mix on? I was thinking of those small Genelecs with the dsp package or the BlueSkys.
We send to a 27" Sony TV for the acid test now...

the 3632's? 31's?

I am very happy with the detail of the Screen arrays and the right amp in the right room tuned by the right person ! This is what i installed on my dub stage. I have been checking TV mixes mixed in a TV-sized room, and it translates very well. Granted, the size of my stage is the size of a TV dub stage in a big Hollywood facility...... But, there are a lot of people who mix TV in their larger room. Check on the bigs, Check it on the TV and if it translates, print it. I don't plan to mix TV on my stage, but I know I can if i have to.

Point is, you don't have to......but, you do need to check on TV. Or, check in the smaller room for a couple of mixes and see what it tells you. Yet, if you have the budget, mid-fields are a nice extra check!

If you know your room and the mixes translate, why mess with success, unless producers are asking you to demo for them on a smaller system? If they are I'd vote for Blue Sky, but you'll have to rejigger your time/budget if you have a 2nd system because inevitably there will be questions and requests for changes as the two systems compare--make sure you or your company isn't on the hook for those hours.
