Hi there, I have to find a sound for a video and I have no clue: A 35mm Film, which stops accidently in the projector and begins to burn, you all know the scenario. On the screen, you see that the film stops, then get's brown to black and shrimples away. The producer told me: Yeah, we need a sound for this. Any ideas ? thanks, kosi |

Rent Gremlins. Or was it Gremlins II? The real sound of this happening, if it's even possible, probably won't be the sound the director's after. I think in this case you might have to use your imagination. |

Now that I've given you a hard time, here's one of my first ever posts on the Digidesign User Conference: DUC: What does it sound like when the projector dies? |

Yeah, I don't need the real sound, I need something, that sounds AS IF. Maybe someone has an idea ? I thought about some crackling, ripping, tearing noises, but it's not gonna happen, at least the ones, I have or made here... |

cinema paradiso problably has an example. simpsons episodes... why dont you buy a 35mm regular foto camera film in CVS and burn it. and record it. and then add sweeteting with stuff that sounds like it- once you know how it sounds. |

Take the cellophane foil from a cigarette pack - you still have those over in the US? crumble it in front of a microphone and you have something that most people might take for burning film - add projector noise and off you go... ![]() Kosi, just realized you are from Berlin, we met at the AES dinner few years ago...

Hey Niko ! Thanks for the tip, this is the ticket ! I burnt some film yesterday, but the real sound is pretty lame, a very soft, crackling sound (with a good stink) My girlfriend got yesterday a bunch of pralines as Xmas-gift, which were enwrapped in cellophane and this sounds beautiful ! Also very good: The package of my vitamintablets. Problem solved ! Greetings to Hamburg, Niko, I looked at your homepage and can vaguely remember you ! Have a nice christmas |
