Newbie question: Dolby Digital format

hello,
please excuse the newbie question but I need a software converter that will take the dolby digital audio from a small HDD camcorder and turn it into .bwf or aiff. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm, not sure, but MPEG Streamclip might do that.

You might need the MPEG2 Decoder from Quicktime (or Quicktime Alternative) for it to work though.

hi andrew, thanks!
indeed i did need the MPEG2 plug to get the videos off of the camera onto a computer. But outside of the dvd burning software the camera came with, i cannot open/import/locate the audio files for the videos. The video will import to Pro Tools but audio is not showing up here or imovie. The cameras manual states the audio file format is stereo dolby digital 48k. Any idea how I could find the audio and convert it to a more usable format? thanks again!

If you can burn a DVD, try this:

Product - DVDxDV

It isn't free, but a lot of people use the pro version.

Can you open the file in Quicktime player and look if there is both a video and an audio track or if the track is muxed (Command-J and Command-I will give some info about the file), if so, then MPEG streamclip, like mentioned above, should probably be able to demux it and convert it.

actually the only way it will open is through the dvd burning software panasonic provided. If I click on the clip in this program, it will open a QT window. I will double check again. Thanks.

If you're on Mac, Audio Hijack might do the trick.
