VO Talent

I'm interested in putting together a reel to test the waters, see if I can generate any opportunities as voiceover talent. I don't have a good speaking voice, but I've been told that I do cartoon-style voices/accents/general crazyness quite well (by someone formerly in the post industry.) So my questions to those in the know are;

1 - What would a proper demo reel consist of? Just voice, or some video files/ADR
as well? How long should it be? I have access to high-end gear with which to
produce such things.

2 - Is this a worthwhile venture? Or are people who do impersonations and crazy
voices a dime a dozen?

I had a read of the "getting voice over work" thread, but I wanted to ask about this angle specifically. I'm in the Toronto area, if anyone were to have suggestions of people/places to contact.

Thanks for any replies, this is totally foreign territory for me. thumbsup

I suggest taking some acting and voice-over classes locally. That will not only help you with your skills but will put you in touch with active people in the industry. From there, the instructors will most likely help you put together a proper demo reel. That will also give you a good taste of what it's like to record in a booth with the clock on and the client watching. From there it's up to you how far you want to take it. Good luck and have fun!
