| Pro Tools - automation only on selection? hey chaps, I'd like to make a selection on a track, move the volume or send fader, and have ONLY the selection's volume/send automation change. Currently to do this I have to put automation in write mode, loop play the selection and then make my changes while it records automation. Is there any way to get only the selected area's automation to move without having to put automation in write mode and loop play? IS that what snapshots are for? thanks dudes. |

| Yep. Check out this article on snapshot automation: Mixer Snapshots and Automation Data The shortcut for Write to All Enabled Parameters is Cmd+Opt+/ (Mac). Once you get fast with it, mixing in PT is a new experience. |

| Which control surface? On my D Command I can: While playing.... touch a fader, set it to where I want it, then press write to punch, which writes the current position to the point at which I touched, then press Automatch when I want to drop out. OR Make a selection, press play, move the fader to where you want it and press Write to All. In this case it will only write to the selection, if there were no selection it would write to the whole track. While in stop... make selection, pull down fader as much as you like, press command / to write to selected. Preview allows you to take control of a fader etc, hearing the change, getting it where you want it, and then actually entering write to begin writing. Not sure it really applies here though.

| Check out the PT Manual which explains the Preview function (HD only) really well. Snapshot automation works on both HD and LE (not sure, but DVTK might be required). |
