360 degree sound localization

Hi all,

What would be a good book to read if I want to learn about sound localisation in 360 degree space. In games you have this localisation effect that there's an illusion the sound comes from behind, or far away left etc. Or better yet, is there a plugin with a "joystick" that does this for me?

Wink

Google "HRTF" and "audio". HRTF stands for "head-related transfer function"... this has to do with localization of sounds. That is the psychoacoustical term.

I have to ask if you are talking of Sound localization at real space or at a simulated computer space?

I guess I'm talking about simulated computer space, an illusion made with two speakers.

Maybe it was just the system/room I was listening in, but some creepy shit happens on Gorillaz 'Tomorrow Comes Today' with the whistling track. It sounds like it is coming from a different direction than the speakers.

Can somebody explain how this works??

It was rather funny because I was in high school and me and my bro were home alone for the day. We smoked some pot and were watching music videos and we heard whistling coming down the hallway and we both shit our pants thinking that somebody was in the house, but no...tricked by some crazy localization shit. No idea how that happens.
