Thread Starter | audio level standards
Hi, I've started at a new job which is a post facility at a university here in Melbourne. I'm moved over from 10 years of audio recording and radio and now on the upswing for post which is great. Question regards how others may be working to create a standard audio level for their video productions? We would like to avoid productions having a varying and fluctuating audio level in the final master from client to client, what would you use to calibrate a standard? simon |

Not sure exactly what you are asking but all broadcasters have their own delivery specs as regards audio levels (peak and rms and dial norm) so there are standards there already they are just not all the same. Also the mix room should be calibrated to 79spl for mixing tv and 82-85spl when mixing for film. There is a great thread on this on the DUC.

Thanks Garrett. Yeh, dial norm I guess. Just looking to get a consistent audio level between each project that is delivered. Music mastering is all over the shop depending on how it is mastered and by whom, we are just looking to develop our own standard that is consistent for us and our clients. I'll look into the tv and film side. DUC? Would that be - Digidesign User Conference — The DUC |

Garret is correct. To add, when you calibrate your room, you are free from staring at meters. Calibrating allows you to mix with your ears to a "listening" level, like Goldilocks and the the 3 bears, not too loud, not too soft, just right!!! |
