SignalTools as an LEQ(A) Meter for DialNorm Check?

Hey...

I noticed the DigiRack Plug-In called SignalTools PhaseScope has a button marked LEQ(A) on the bottom of it and I was wondering if it would make sense to buss all of the dialog in a session to a stero aux with PhaseScope inserted in LEQ(A) Mode (set to INFINITE in the window setting and HOLD ON STOP engaged) as a way of getting a DialNorm reading? It seems that it would give a useful, overall reading as it is not resetting, nor averaging a 1sec-2minute window.

It would be easier/more real-time than AudioLeak and way less expensive than (the no-doubt more accurate) LM100 which I sadly cannot afford.

Is anyone doing this? Has anyone checked it's accuracy? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi unique feature of the LM-100 is it's "dialogue intelligence" algorithm, which recognizes and measures only the dialogue of a full mix. Sadly, no software exists that does this. In that sense, the Dolby is not more accurate, it simply features a propietary algorithm which has become a standard in quality control departments.

LM-100 dialnorm vs. Phasescope Leq(A) of dialogue stem:
The LM-100 will analyse only the dialogue portions of the programme, leaving out of the analysis everything else. On the other hand, Phasescope on the dialogue stem will take into account silence between dialogue portions, thus giving a lower overall value.

The closest you could get to an LM-100 IMHO is to analyse the dialogue stem with Audioleak 2.0 PRO which now includes a gating feature, leaving out of the analysis levels below a set threshold. But it will NOT guarantee you pass the QC of a certain network.

Thanks for the info... it helps alot. I didn't realize the silence would affect the measurement.
