Simultaneous Laybacks to Beta-SP and Digibeta

heres the situation:
protools hd3 w/1x192io, and 1xsync-io version7.3+ digitranslator, machine control option etc.
we need to do laybacks of stereo mix to a beta SP deck, and splits to a digibeta(stereo music, mono dialog, mono efx)
our digibeta seems to be unable to chase timecode, and protools can only control one machine at a time with a serial connection.
is there a solution? using the beta sp as the master, slaving protools to the SPdeck and the digibeta to protools? surely this will introduce poor sync and latency?

does anyone use a mircolynx to lock 2 decks and protools? is this an archaic solution?

any help is much appreciated

Make sure you have video black feeding all the decks for frame edge accuracy.
Split the timecode out of the Beta SP with a mult to the Digibeta and the Protools rig.

cheers

A mult, like Georgia said. And I've always had better luck slaving PT to my layback machine as a general rule. Keep a remote controller (BUF VTC2000, for example) next to your desk and just drive the deck when it's time to lay back.

Only in a situation such as the one you are describing.

In terms of the age of the MicroLynx, yes. It's really the only way to do it properly though. When we have to do this sort of thing, we use the MicroLynx to drive the VTRs and have Pro Tools chase the TCG of the MicroLynx.

So on the topic of the microlynx:

1] is the 3rd card required for what i need to do? (sync 2 beta/digibeta decks and protools for laybacks)

2] are the sync cables proprietary? my studio manager believes they are and i need confirmation. if they are in fact proprietary, are they still available anywhere..new used doesnt matter.

3] does timeline still exist in an way shape or form? the main page of the timeline-vista site is still active and makes references to refurbished units available, and lists contact information.

4] anybody got a working unit with remote, PS, and cables they are looking to part with?

No. You would use the TCG to generate SMPTE TC or MTC and have Pro Tools chase that.

The cables that connect the RS-422 ports of a VTR to the MicroLynx are proprietary.

We're not parting with ours. Perhaps someone else reading this is?
