Pull down for Commercials?

Hi-
Im working on a commercial, and Ive noticed the timecode burn in on the quicktime file to be running a tad faster than my PT (29.97) counter. I pulled down the video and sure enough- the counter and QT window burn were in precise sync.

My question is: Should I work pulled down? Or since this is destined for american television, should I work at 29.97 and ignore any pull. What would be reasons for pulling VIDEO down for a commercial or any program destined for tv or braodcast.

A side note: On the right side of the window burn, I see a small upwards triangle? Any meaning?

Thanks

Pulldown is a film sound convention. We typically use it on most projects. It would be highly unusual to require it's use for a broadcast material.

to the original poster, you need to contact the picture department to find out what format the code you are seeing is- It is unwise to assume what it is.

If you're timeline is 29.97 and you have to pull down the original qt file to play it in sync, than the original qt file is 30fps.
29.97 is the NTSC standard for broadcast, why they would give you video at 30fps, I have no idea.
But, like the previous poster said, find out what they have given you and what they expect in return.

charles maynes

thas exactly why i wanted to clarify what he meant by pulldown.

as for the original post.
sometimes the editors add the burn-in tC later as an effect and could have used the wrong settings, thus, the FPS is right in the QT/pix while the burn-in is difrent.

but just in case, and just as the privious posts indicated , ask the editors.
