HELP! Newbie question - Scoring a film on Mac OS 9

Hi everyone,

I have a newbie question. If I were to get offered a gig, writing/recording music for a feature film... exactly what would I need? software-wise?

Currently, I have Pro Tools Mix Plus 5.1, running on OS 9.1 (on a G4, single processor, 400 MHz, with just over 700 MB of RAM). That's it. I have no other software.

What software would I need (compatible with OS 9) to view the actual film on my computer, while I'm composing the music? I am totally clueless about the technical aspect of creating music for film, so I would appreciate any help. Thanks

Digital Performer 3.1 would run under OS9. You can run it in DAE mode to use your Pro Tools Hardware.

You can probably find a used Pinnacle Miro DC30 video card pretty cheap. This will allow you to display a Quicktime movie on a separate display or TV monitor. Just make sure that the picture department gives you a Quicktime movie that is compatible with your version of Quicktime. Check this: Quicktime Compato Chart
