I couldn't agree more with the article "The Audience Isn't Listening."

I just came back from seeing Harry Potter at a local theater. It was my first time at this theater, as I usually go down to the Arclight in Hollywood, and the presentation of the film was along the same lines as the blog post. The high frequency driver in the left speaker behind the screen was blown, and buzzed for the entire film. If this was not distracting enough, the picture was also a little out of focus, causing eye strain and fatigue.

A few years ago I would of course have informed the management of the situation, but after numerous managers over time simply not caring and nodding with their empty assurances, I have since learned to just save my breath.

Maybe one of these days THX certification for exhibition will become mandatory.
