encryption type sounds..?..

Hello everyone.

I'm starting to record an album with a band that wants to have a encryption / code breaker theme. They are thinking about mixing audio of this type of stuff into or between music tracks.

Anyone have a line on some audio like this? Any place I should look online?

Thanks,
ERic

Thanks Charles,

ahh. Yes. I hadn't thought about that. I'm really curious about the sounds that an original enigma machine might have made..
Now, where to find such sounds

Ahh, the sound of factoring large prime numbers... :-)

For mechanical sounds you could add some effects to and old dot matrix printer, a Benson plotter (or any plotter). Plotters actually sound pretty cool.

Maybe modem handshakes. Or, the sound of data encoded on old commodore 64 tape drives might be cool. I remember Pakacuda sounding neat when listening to it.

For once, cell phone interference might come in handy, as well.

Sounds like a cool project.

The Enigma was a bit like a typewriter, though with a number of cylinders inside which rotated to create the actual message- I think they might have used it in the film U-571, but I am not entirely sure- A manual adding machine would likely be similar.
