Basic Sync Question

Hi there,

Sync has never been my cup of tea and I'd like to know if you could help me with a really basic setup since I'm not sure I'll do it right myself :-/

I have a Mac with PT HD and another PC that I use with Gigastudio.

Right now, the PC is setup with MidiOverLan and I use PT to record my tracks.

Both stations are clocked with a Big Ben.

I'm going to replace my PC with a Mac Pro and I'm thinking about using Logic on the new Mac Pro to record my Midi Stuff and only use PT for recording/editing/mixing audio.

So I'm going to have to sync both stations since I won't use PT anymore for Midi stuff.

I don't have a Midi interface anymore since I'm using MidiOverLan now.

How can easily I sync PT with Logic and the Big Ben?

Bonus question: will there be a way to use my master keyboard controller on both stations?

Thanks for your help!

Lightbulb clock and chase

Will the Logic DAW have any kind of an audio interface with word clock? If so, take a word clock out of the Big Ben and route it to the word clock input on the Logic hardware. OS X has a MIDI over Ethernet configuration in Audio MIDI Setup. Have one DAW send MTC over this virtual connection, and have the other DAW chase that.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the info.

Yes my new computer will have an audio card with WC.

I didn't know it was possible to chase MTC from Ethernet without a Midi interface.
That's actually good news.

It looks like it's not going to be that complicated... hopefully!

This doesn't apply to your WC issues, but it does apply to your workflow. I 've made the effort to do exactly that several times, and always end up abandoning it fairly quickly. Having two computers working in tandem like that and trying to maintain a creative flow is a nightmare. I think your best bet is to either switch audio and midi to Logic, or your midi over to PT. Just my $.02.
