Thread Starter | Lavalier Microphone for noisy environments? Hi there, what would you recommend for a cheep but still good sounding Lavalier Microphone to pick up a good signal in a noisy environment? Cheers

| I agree that directional lavs don't really make a lot of difference when compared to omni. They are much more difficult to position and use in general and for that reason I'd personally always go for omni. If its a noisy environment then try to get the mic as close as possible to the mouth. Try mounting it on the talent's head: mounted in the hair like theatre folk do, on the brim of a cap or hardhat (I'm thinking industrial environment?). I've put a small lav on someone's eye-glasses before now and it worked very well (so long as they don't take them off without thinking!). If its on the head you don't need to worry about head movement! Also take note of what mic you use as some mic's seem to reject "external sound" better than others. I'd recommend Sony ecm88's. Cos11's are not good in in this application. I don't know about countryman mics - they not very common in the UK. |
