SFX database/ management

Hi,

Im working mainly in film Post and Im looking for a great SFX management tool. I have narrowed it to Soundminer or Netmix. Does anyone have any recomendations/ suggestions. Can I expect to encounter one over the other more often? Thanks for any help....

SOUNDMINER. They are great people. I talked with them at NAB and they said their new version will be released in about month.

I've used Soundminer and think it's excellent..HOwever Netmix has a serious leg up in its ability to be customized. I remember when Technicolor was working with them, and they would do killer customization for them. I do not know if they will do that for a small guy or not.

Does anyone know which program's metadata fields are more standardized? One thing I do come across is the need or cross platform compatibility, as well as the inclusion of Video and other media File types that already may have metadata embedded in them from other programs.

soundminer v4 is out and I'm loving it. i think it might still be quasi-beta, with a few bugs to sort out, but the user interface is much improved IMHO, it used to be
somewhat idiosyncratic but now it's like the Barry Bonds version of itunes.
Simple, straightforward, powerful, customizable.
I can't recommend it highly enough.
It does everything I need, lightning fast and reliably.
Plus, their tech support has been amazing.
Haven't tried netmix, though.

Soundminer is making life much easier. My old way of searching through FX was way too cumbersome. It's taking some time to rip all my effects into Broadcast WAV, but it's turning out to be very well worth it. I'm using V4 and it seems pretty solid so far.

Haven't used any of the others, but I give a big to Soundminer.

Soundminer rocks. I have all of the SFX libaries ripped in SM but also a lot of the comerical music libaries are starting to provide hard drives with their cues already ripped for SM. It has definately speed up the workflow for us.

Good luck...

Just an FYI for all PC-based folks who aren't using SoundMiner: Basehead has received a whole bunch of killer updates over the past few weeks that have greatly elevated the program's functionality and feel as a professional program. These were all free to registered users, but the program is very inexpensive and worth a look if you're in the market.

They also recently released Injector Pro, which is a very efficient and easily updated ripper.

I love Soundminer v4-

With whatever you get, be sure you can put metadata into your FX though- Once that is done, you can name the files anyway you like without losing your recordings info.

there are their websites- (not to be silly)

the basic difference is that Netmix is handy if you want to but content.... you can search the online internet sound libraries inside the application-

Soundminer is really an in-house sort of application.

I was going to write a diatribe, but thought restraint is better-

They are both professional platforms- Netmix allows you access to libraries inside the application that are internet based....
