Car Accident Sounds

Hey guys,

I need to create the sound of someone being run over by a car.

The shot is from inside and the car brakes but too late and hits the pedestrian who goes over the bonnet.

Ive tried various impact hits such as roads signs, large metal sheets etc but they dont sound convinsing and give enough power to the scene. I tried recording the ground in a small room and dropping heavy objects a few meters away to try and get a deep impact sound too.

Obviously I want it to sound realistic but it is the end of the film and so also needs to have a big impact, any ideas?

Thanks

Create a nice thumpy impact sound and then add suspension bounces. I think the suspension sound is what's really going to sell it. If it's from the interior perspective roll off a bunch of high end starting around 2-3K to fit. You might also try adding speed bump fx to further inhance the hit. If you have time to record foley do some body impacts on metal or a car door if you have one and eq to fit.

The sound of a cars suspension system, which primarily comes from the shock absorbers and chassis movement. Basically the bouncing action of the car. Get a few guys to bounce up and down on a car and record the sound the shocks and body make. That should take care of it.

I got hit by a bus once. From my perspective, it was all about the strange, disorientating combination of snap and thump, and the impending sense of doom directly preceding this. If the shot were from the pedestrian's POV, at least, I would fade in some kind of immensely threatening engine rumble and break it off abruptly with the snap and thump.

Incidentally, I don't remember the thump as having had any particularly metallic ring or whatever. The bus was probably too solid for this to be the case. If you do recreate a sense of the collision by dropping or hitting a metallic object, I think it is going to have to be a dense, sturdy, probably sizeable object, although proximity effect might help to boost the all-important weighty bass.

If you get hit by a bus and can remember the actual sound with such detail, you must be a real post-pro!
