It's free, but only limited to 5 simultaneous users. Doing some testing with it now, but I'm stuck with track import renaming.. ie. if i choose to use CDDB to hunt for track names, it will appear fine, but inorder to know the track numbers, the user (producer or whoever hunting or music) need to go into "get info". My idea is to rip my full collection into a file server (Windows), and if the producer or director wants to look for music, he/she will access it from any spare PCs we have on the network. They could either use the shared playlist or mount the shared network drive (from the server) BUT, if they look at playlists, it would be troublesome for them, because there are extra steps for them (as mentioned above) inorder to note down the track info and pass it to the editors to import. The track numbers could be included in the filenames without problem (there's an option to check in itunes), but i just couldnt get the numbers to appear together with the song names.. I have been trying to hunt for a Applescript (I'm using a mac to rip the music via itunes) that would auto include the track numbers into the song name. But no luck. so we might have to enter these track numbers manually :( Guess i would really have to invest in a commercial s/w in the near future if our CD collection gets bigger.. Any affordable solutions you found so far?? Thanks!

| That's odd, I seem to have no trouble with the filenames having the track number attached. Do you have keep itunes music folder organized selected in preferences? Steve |

Adding Track numbers to filenames is not an issue when the option to "Create file names with track number" is checked in preferences. BUT, my issue is, I need to include the track number in Song Names in Itunes (and the ID3 tags), so that the person searching for it knows what to tell the editor which pieces he/she found. Cannot seem to find an itunes Script to do it.. maybe i'll try with ID3 tags editing apps (But my files are AIFF, not sure if these would work..)

| Gear maniac | If you were Mac, You could try this to rename them: A Better Finder Rename I'm sure there are apps for the PC as well. If you use ProTools, you could make catalogs with digibase.

urgh, it must be my poor English that my explanation of my issue is not clear .. btw, A Better Rename do have a PC version.. but I'm using (on a mac) R-Name which is free :) Anyway, I'm doing all the song renaming manually. (CDDB gets most of the song names fine, I just need to include the track number in the names) just curious, if I were to purchase Soundminer (not any time soon though), or any other library management apps, will the ID tags I entered in iTunes show up properly? especially Genres..

| Gear maniac | I think it does id3 renaming... it's in the pulldown.

| Sound Miner is a great way to go. I have been using it for the last 3 years and I could not see myself working with out it. All of our SFX and music libraries have been ripped for SM and it makes work flow so fast and easy. It is a definite must have for the post production guys. |

| Gear Head | If you're using a PC and you're ripping the audio from a cd, you can use EAC (exact audio copy) to do your rip http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ it has cddb functionality and has an ID3 Tag editor with drag and drop possibliity from track listing and database. It has extensive ability to set up your own filename layout including track title, track number, artist name, release year, etc etc... Screenshots here ==> http://users.pandora.be/satcp/eac02.htm#- If properly configured, it makes exact audio copies and the best part is the application is free! |
