hey georgia!

georgia... PLEASE tell me you are cutting and pasting these posts! i am imagining you frantically tap tap tapping on your keyboard, fingers blurred, plastic slapping, as you sweat profusely from your forehead, stopping only to mop your brow and take a swig of Red Bull while your senior assistants quietly escort your neophytes of tender disposition away from your computer station and into the anterior chambers of ww audio all the while telling them not to look but not to worry, you will be back.....

Hi guy!

I stay up long nights on an old selectric typewriter that I have mechanically connected to my computer for that writer feel. I also use only candles to save on electricity.... Actually, I would say about 25% of the stuff I write on the fly, 50% I've written and/or compiled/rewrote as the requests or questions came up in the past and I just keep them until needed again with a few minor tweaks, and the last 25% is stuff i have found or been sent over the years...

I have a training guide for my studio that is about 2" thick with a gazillion nifty things in it ranging from rewritten/reworded manuals, stream of conscience writtings from me, documents from friends and co-workers, research papers i've pulled together and stuff from our in-house training program that I wrote, as well as great stuff available on the web. So basically..... yea... I spend a lot of time researching stuff and I'm happy to share my findings.... One the the things that gets me, is if someone asks a question and I don't know the answer.... It always reminds me of just how ignorant I truly am!

Cheers
geo

PS: Ignorance can be fixed... Stupid is Forever

pps: and massive quanities of Folgers Regular grind...( I leave the red bull to my minions )

hey geo!

phew!....

you knew, i was just funnin'. it was just remarkable to all of a sudden see a plethora of prodigious posts on some abstruse bit of film sound arcanus.

actually, i also have a lot of your same sources and papers and i have 2 HUGE notebooks full of technical articles and papers as well as 2 shelves stuffed with books...and folder full of PDF's that i have to sort out. but then we also have to glean some stuff off the internet. and you certainly have contributed greatly to that published knowledge.

... so THANKS!

i am sure i'll be stopping into New York again sometime soon, and we can get caught up. i still haven't seen the new place... but comparing the pictures to my experience of the old place, it is a great step up!

Thats what I love about the art of film sound, there is always something new to learn.(Can we keep the PR going, that this IS an art, and we mixers are not just technicians!) Also, if you go to print, sign me up for a copy Georgia!
