We just moved, so I'm up to my knees in boxes and wires, but here's a snap of my little workshop as of two months ago.

There's more on our site: http://www.septaudio.com

Personnally, I think he should have stayed up here a bit longer. He would have been able to get alot more mixing credits and mix experience.
I know he's making alot more money down there though.
I feel that I've been really fortunate in the last couple of years working at PMS.
When I first got hired, I mixed 2nd chair with Greg Stewart, and I learned so much about mixing dialogue from him that first year. Untill then I had never really worked with an experienced Dialogue mixer.
I really would not be as good a dialogue mixer, had it not been for Greg.

He he he....I think that he would agree. He's getting absolutely shafted by Technicolor. It's a shame to see a guy with that kind of talent wasting away and never getting an opportunity.

I know the money is way better down there though.
He's making way more doing M+E's than we make up here as first chair mixers.

It's just the way the budgets are up here.
You gotta have a nice facility, to get the good work.
So, at the end of the day we work more, and make less.
It' s because the producers and post-supervisors nickle and dime the facilities to death.

Hi all, I'm new to Gearslutz. The name is Steven, from France. Here are a few pics from our main studio at Yellow Cab.

EDITED: the new pics are just below in the thread. Cheers.

Looks great Steven! How do you like the Euphonix? Did you go that route because of integration with Nuendo?

Geert, I'm loving the Euphonix! I'm in the midst of a project that I'm mixing in the box because I'll need to do the final mix at the site where the film will play (the new Charles De Gaulle museum in Paris), and it's just... WOW! Now I know that I can easily handle massive Nuendo mixing in addition to all the Euphonix DSP we have. It's quite mind-boggling, the setups you can do.

Imagine: 200+ tracks of sound edits being mixed in Nuendo, output to 10 5.1 stems (as an example)... I have 94 DSP tracks left once the 60 mono channels of the stems hit the desk... Now add either a second beefy Nuendo rig, or a PT or Pyramix. Consider that you mix another 96 (PT) to 150+ (others...) channels in the box and output to stems once again. Mix all those stems in the System5 with Euphonix DSP and say WOW again.

Happy me :)

And yes the Nuendo integration was a big part of the decision to go with the system5 Fusion. And there's nothing to regret there :)

Steven

What is the approx size of the left-hand room (pix)? It looks like a really sweet small room (w/ VO booth/studio).

Great looking facility, dogandpony. What immediately struck me about the second pic was that those monitors (Blue Sky?) appear to be awfully far apart. (Not that you haven't noticed...) Do you get workable imaging like that?

Thanks for the kudos! The left hand room is approx 10.5 x 14 with a 10' ceiling give or take a few inches; it really is nice to work in. As for the monitor spacing in the other room, the imaging is great; I think the pictures make the spacing look wider than it is, the photographer used a really wide lens.

Beautifully done. I have a room about the same size--you are giving me inspiration!
The chairs near the camera are very classy.

Oh, you two...

dogandpony: Ah, that must be it. With your kind of facility that would have been an odd mistake to slip by.

Is that a Euphonix MC by the way? If it is, how do you like it? I do some video-editing as well, seems like a very nice control surface, but I'm still not convinced it is worth the money. If it had 8 faders, I'd probably buy it.

Thanks Minister, if you remember we spoke during the Cookie Thief...hope all is well with you.

Yes, those are Euphonix MC's in both rooms. I absolutely love them and would recommend them to anyone. I too thought 4 faders might be an issue but, like anything, you learn your tools and get fast on them and all is well. The downside is now I want to upgrade the MC's to System 5 MC's, more money!
