We need a very good, experienced audio expert to do post work on our feature film.

Hi there. . .

We have just finished all of the editing of our first feature film, "Works in Progress." We are also almost finished with color-correction in Hollywood, but now need to take care of the audio side.

Our editor has done a wonderful job of putting together the cut and sound effects (mostly foley effects from SoundSnap), but we need help on the final film mix and, especially, noise removal (air handling equipment, booms, lav scratches, etc.).

Here's what we are looking for:

1. Someone who knows what they are doing. We aren't looking for someone who thinks they know how to do this, we are looking for someone who has done this sort of work several times before.

2. Someone who can do this work very rapidly (within two weeks).

3. Someone who has programs such as iZotope's RX or Wave Arts MR, X-noise, etc. and who knows exactly how to use these powerful audio noise-reduction tools to get the best possible results.

4. Someone who can, once the noise has been treated, create a final stereo mix. (There would seem to be little reason to do a 5.1 mix on a film such as this. "Works in Progress" is a poignant romantic comedy. It is an indie film, will be rated PG, sports no sex, violence, profanity, or nudity, but does feature superb cinematography, truly world-class acting and editing, amazing indie music, and a marvelously witty and original script. This film has legs.)

We are interested in soliciting applications from people experienced with using Final Cut's OMF files and turning that raw audio in a smoothly finished audio product.

Yes, we are willing to pay for these services, but not tens of thousands of dollars, so don't get too excited. This is an indie film, finance almost entirely out of our own pockets.

The film is about 120 minutes, and has a large number of unique locations.

are those two weeks the start time window for the job, or the time within which you expect the work to be done?

That is a big mistake, whatever theatrical release format you're looking at, it's much better handled from a 5.1 mix master than from a stereo mix.

Please note that an OMF from the picture department usually needs a lot of work in sound editorial... I have never seen a picture editor get everything right
Also please consider that most people you'll be talking to in the film post world will not have both sound editorial and rerecording mixer abilities. A smoothly finished audio product, as you name it, requires skill and time.
And the audio post team is usually assembled quite a long time before picture colour correction is started.

Yes, what Steven said.
Getting an OMF from a FCP session, usually means doing a proper edit again.
Has the editor built complete BG and FX tracks, using more than just the production sound?
If not, then that will be a complete edit as well.

If the dialog and SFX edit has not been done by an experienced Audio-Post person,
I can guarantee you, this won't be finished in 2 weeks.

And there is a big difference between editing and mixing.
Especially when it comes to dialog for what is obviously a dialog driven movie.

Evidently Stephen is completely LOST... Why didn't you hire a professional Production Sound Mixer in the first place? I think i know the answer to that... Nice try Bubba!

Hmm, looks like his two weeks are up. He must have found someone as he never came back looking again.

I wish them both (he and the person who took this on) luck and hope it turned out well...

I wonder if he tried Craigslist?
