Sorry for the lack of updates, but I took a few days out (vacations) and got ill after, so the construction stopped, but it has already started again, the walls are being painted.

Right now I'm choosing patchbays, cabling, furniture... It's driving me crazy!!!!

I will post some pics soon.

The painting 1st phase has ended, you can also see that the windows and doors casings are painted.

The Basstraps cavities are all filled
(This is the Control room front Basstrap)

Fabric rolls have arrived. It's Guilford Of Maine FR701 fabric in 4 colors.
(Crapy photo from cellphone)

Here you can see the fabric samples with the colors I chose. The colors are a little bit different in the photo.

I have installed all the rigid insulation on the Basstraps. It's Rockwool 70Kg/m3 (+/- 4PCF).
It has 2 layers, one of 30mm and another of 60mm.

Here you can see the 2 rockwool layers.

Hi Eduardo
2 questions concerning the Rockwool:
what does (+/- 4PCF) mean?
and
exactly which Rockwool product have you used (they all seem to have names like Flexi A-batt, Floor-bat etc.)? I'm asking cos I've had a hard time finding out what the density of each of the diffrent types is...
Thanks! ... Thanks for sharing the whole of this thread with us!

Best regards Thomas

I have some bands booked waiting for it to be ready. Although I'm working in my bedroom, recording guitars, bass, mixing and mastering. But impatiently waiting to move to the studio For the first time I will have good acoustical conditions.

I'm not going to cover the panels myself. I don't have the time and experience to do it, so I contracted a company to do it.

Are you from Europe? If yes ignore PCF (Pound-force per Cubic Foot) just think of kg/m3.
Can't remember the rockwool model I'm using, but I'll check it and post later.

Here is the last Rockwool that I will use, it's for the ceiling panels.

All fabric panels before going to put the fabric.

The carpenter made this box. This will stay in the recording room, it's where the cables connect to the control room. It has a 8RU rack on top to put panels for all connections, in the middle it has a lid for easy access to cables that come underground.
It is made of black MDF, I've never seen it. But it will still be painted in black.

Speaking about cables I have ordered the equivalent to 33 x 8ch Mogami snakes!!!!
It will connect everything to 4 96 point patchbays.
I chose Audio Accessories Shorti Quick-Switch Patchbay DB25s.

i wouldnt put the power conditioner in the same rack as the protools interfaces... and the proposed speaker stands scare me... a fluorescent light that close to speaker wire seems like a recipe for disaster to me... get some stands on spiked feet that you can fill with lead shot... mass is your friend with speaker stands... your monitors will image so much better you wont believe it.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR...
and change the name of this thread!

The 10 ft x 15 ft room I built in my basement is a "small studio" ; this is a great thread and worthy of its own series on TV! So no need to be humble :)

>> Whats the material stuffed into the bass traps, behind the panels? the same as the panels?

Don't worry about the Power conditioner being in the same rack as the protools interfaces. This is where I have it now because I don't have any more space for it, if you entered in the bedroom where I still am you would be in shock!!! I have rack gear on the floor!!!! I have no more rack spaces, all full, I have some gear packed and have a new 10RU rack that doesn't show on that photo.

There aren't any proposed gear or speaker stands, they only put it on the 3D rendering for me to have an idea of how it would look.
But actually they look like Sound Anchors very respected in the Studio "world". I am thinking of maybe buying a set of those stands for my new Barefoots that will be delivered in 1-2 weeks.

Fluorescent light?
Close to the speaker wire?
Where are you seeing it?

Sound Anchors are very heavy, very stable, for you to have an idea of the weight, the price of shipping it to Portugal is +/- the price of what they cost ( +/- US$600).

Jeff,

Although it may be built as a big studio it still is a small studio even if it exists smaller ones

It's different than the panels, it is also rockwool but it has less density and comes in rolls.

gear on the floor doesnt bother me... gear in a rack close to a BIG TRANSFORMER, especially A/D/A converters bother me.. i'd take the power conditioner out of the rack and put it on the floor..

in fact, this is how i ran my studio for years..

yay ghetto style
