6 - Use the screws to align the beam.

The doors are installed.
It was not a easy task. It took 3 guys to carry the doors and install them.

Then the 1st layer of the recording room ceiling was done.
It took a lot of time to put the rockwool, they had to do a lot of cuts.
They just need to put 2 pieces and tape the drywall before the plywood layer.

Here are some pics of the Rockwool. It should be enough for the whole recording room.

And here a pic of the drywall for the 1st layer of both rooms I had to buy 13mm instead of 15mm, I would have to wait more 2-3 weeks, so I got the 13mm they had in stock, the 15mm one will come on time for the 3rd layer.
On the bottom is part of the particleboard needed for the walls 2nd layer

YES !!! Glad to see that you're back on the track man. That place starts to look very nice. It's funny as few days ago i was thinking about this thread & i was asking myself : where is he with his project & to be honest i was about to PM you to get some news. My project will hopefully start at the end of this year & i have found the place so you can guess how much you experience is useful to me

I have a question regarding those doors mate : What's the dB attenuation of each ? They look like standard fire proof doors. Is it the case ?

Great project - reminds me of the last overhaul at my place - done right!

What was the height of the ceiling of the raw building? What is it now?

Great to see the progress and more and more resemblance to a real room

The original height was 280cm which isn't very good and it will have about 240-245cm in the end.

Feel free to ask any details

Updates.
The Rec Room wall 1st layer is done. (Actually it is in a later stage now, but I'll try to post step by step.)

Pic of the wall filled with rockwool, It has 2 layers of 50mm.

Pic of the back of the wall where you can see the wire that was used to get the rockwool in place so it doesn't fall back to the air space.

Dimmer Isolation Box

Lights isolation boxes in preperation
The project had tracking lights in mind, but the ceiling is so low already that I didn't want the lights to be hung from that height.
So I decided to but downlights, it has to have a isolation box in each, since the lights are recessed in the ceiling.

Pics of the Rec room wall 1st layer installed and taped

Before you start the second layer of sheetrock, you may want to consider using this type of product to attach it to the first layer. It is expensive.
The web site has some very informative articles on it also.

Way more then I imagined!!!
I think that when this studio construction ends I'll then be ready to build one as I should have been in the beginning
What I have learned is that you have to be thinking the next steps way ahead when you are making decisions.

I don't know if I've said it before but everytime I need inspiration or that I feel that this is too complicated I go to your construction thread

Green Glue is your soundproofing and noise reduction material

Thanks for the advice. I know the existence of Green Glue.
And I do believe on the benefits of it.
But since the floor, walls and ceiling will have 3 layers (2 GWB + 1 Plywood or 2 GWB + 1 Particleboard ) to achieve greater stiffness, I don't think that for what I want the Green Glue would be overkill.
Not to mention how hard it would be to get it to Portugal
God knows the problems I had to get any Acoustic sealant. (It came from Spain and now from UK)

Hi Eduardo,

Can you possibly expand on this a little, what would you like to have done differently at previous stages (if anything)? What have you found you would of liked to thought about a little ahead of time?

Thanks

Some things that come to mind:

- I chose the measures between studs in favor of the boards size so that I didn't had to make too much cuts. It was a wrong decision, I should had chosen to space the studs so that the Rockwool would fit without cuts. It's way more work to cut the rockwool than the boards.
- when making decisions where the HVAC and ducts would stay, I should have thought of everything that would be on the ceiling.
I only thought of the panels and forgot about the recessed lightning, because I was not thinking of doing it in the first place.
- I also had a lot of problems for not choosing and ordering the material in the right moment.
- I made a mistake in choosing the glass for the windows, they gave me an option of doing it with double laminated with an air gap.(which is more common). This looked ok to me until I remembered that this way it would have a triple leaf, mainly on the 2 windows that seperate the rooms.
I was at time to change what I ordered. I had to wait 6 more weeks. And the glass had to be thicker than what I needed because the minimum to fit the window was 24mm.
So on the separating windows, instead of 19mm on one window and 13mm on the other, I ordered 28mm and 24mm, I didn't had an option, it was this or glasses with air gap.

The Recording Room ceiling 2nd layer is done.
It's plywood 19mm (3/4")
The acoustic caulk is disappearing!!!!
At this point they spent 10 900ml (29oz) on walls and ceiling.
I already ordered 24 more.

I love these kinds of threads and its cool to be able to follow your work..

your thread title is misleading though .. As this is no "small" studio, nor a small task you have undertaken.. he he

Isn't hindsight beautiful!

triple leaf,
I'm not sure I get what you mean by this? Are you saying you could have gone glass:air:glass on the studio side, and then also on the control room side in the frame work meaning 4 sheets of glass total?

cheers.
