Where exactly is the studio? I have relatives that live in Kailua, Oahu.

Kailua Kona on the Big Island, Gravity check me out next time you are in Hawaii if you can.

To answer your question Mrlouie

I'm going to have some rules intergrated into my recording contracts to hopefully head off problems before they start and trust me they wont get in the 1st door if I see beach clothes or sand on their feet.

Also I have had my fair share of problems working with people I don't know (everyone thinks they are rock stars) and I'm going to try to pick my projects wisely.

i've never shown up at a studio drunk or high...

but when when i'm not tracking for the rest of then night....i dont mind enjoying some beers or some bourbon on the couch in the back of the control...all within moderation and control...as to not hamper the process..

I might have to paint one or 2 of them of them due to a little pain scrape here and
there. Tell me more about your issues with painting them.
Well, just cover the hinges as best you can until all the construction is done. As for taking the doors off th hinges, a big guy pulled one off here by himself - NOT ME. Being gravity hinges, they just slide right off provided there is 2 or 3 inches of room overhead to be able to lift th door up. After thatm they took the male and female parts o the hinges down to the shop for cleaning and greased them up nicely with some white lithium grease. Once they were back on, they were better than my memory from day 1. No damage to the hings, no looseness, nothing - I was afraid the friction migh o filed some metal off and then those filings took more metal off. But everything turned out great. (and I'm talking bout the worst dorr, which one needed to place their hands on the wall to continue pulling he door open) So don't sweat too much over them, just be sure to maybe take em off and lube em up after construction isdone, but the big guy is still around to pull the doors off the hinges.

Arrgh, painting. I'd send an email to iac. our paint guys didn't do anything speacial and even when we hung a sign up with scotch tape, the paint came off when the tape was pulled off. Be sure to order kick plates and install them too, and when you hold a painted door open w/ your foot, eventually the base o the door will start to look like cr@p. I've place little magnets on the back of all our signage for the doors, so there's no need to tape anything there again. Let me know if you find a better way to get the paint to adhere, maybe IAC will advise scuffing the door first.

Samara says hey. Sorry I missed you when you were in, I remember her saying someone from HI was stopping by the next day, but I guess we missed meeting when you were in.

Painting tips

Firstly great looking place you got coming on!
Im a pro painter so befor you get the painters in make shure the plaster on the dry wall is realy dry as it takes longer than you think and even if the surface looks dry the plaster can still be soft underneath! I would say let it dry out for a couple weeks.
Then befor you apply paint be shure your painter applyes a good water based primer specificaly made for dry wall and plaster.
If you dont do it this way the paint will eventually peal off very easily even if you put some tape and then pull it off!
You have been advised!!
Good luck and all the best

Update time!

Looks like my Christmas present will be a month late.

The good news is we have been busy in the final phase of construction. We have started the finish work such as putting up the Diffusors (which look really nice), spraying the clouds with 3 layers of clear coat, working late into the nights and much more etc...
The control room is all framed in and ready for the finish acoustic panels. We got the electrical and HVAC just about finished in all rooms. With a few more minor touches we can fire up the electricity and AC.

The control room looks awesome, I’m very glad I hired a designer!

I'm just about to put in the order for the patch bays and cables, I had to put it off due to my budget and other issues. Anyway the cables should all be here in a few weeks along with the Tonelux console and the rest of my gear. I should be able to wire it all up, test everything and open doors by Feb 1st (fingers crossed).

It is very cool to see the blueprints and the whole plan come to life!

I will start of with a few warm up shots, I will have some sweet ones within the next few days so stay tuned!

Merry Christmas or as we say in Hawaii Mele Kalikimaka
