Like I said before the problem with Hawaii is there are no Tape techs that I know of that I trust, so the machine has got to be ultra reliable!
Shipping back and forth from the mainland round trip is $$$$ and a headache!

Radar is rock solid, a tape machine can go down.
This is why I'm considering Radar rig before a tape machine.

I cant afford to have my rig go down.

But

I have heard good things about MCI JH 24's being very reliable + a good sounding machine. I got a line on one in good condition right now and I'm getting tempted.

You got any better ideas Steve?

Lcds are a little high in the picture but the cool thing is that they are
on extending articulating arms and are going to be moved around
until I find out where they work best.

They can retract right up against the wall or extend 40 inches
out into the room. You can move them side by side like you see
in the pic or on top of each other vertically stacked.

Takes about 1 minute to reconfig how ever the engineer prefers.

If I'm worried about reflections I can hide one monitor behind the other one
for a critical mix.

pictures soon!

A new 827 might last longer than both of our lifespans put togeather........

My 820 is rock solid with only normal maintence..... which so far i have been able to do myself. Its all card based so if theres a problem just swap out a card

You wouldn't want to ship the machine, it would be easier to fly a tech there

I know what you mean when you talk about reliability, we cant have these things going down in the middle of a session

My machine stays on for weeks at at a time and gets use sometimes 12 or more hours a day, Thats when its most stable. Its only when its turned off for awhile that it has a couple logic problems on start up but after a while its ok

You need to look at the market and if it demands a 24 tk tape machine.

Also i would recommend getting 2 ... having one for a parts machine would save loads of down time if you could do the repairs

Another thing to consider is a ATR 102 2tk.
That might be of more use to your clients...... i dont know the market there but a great 2 tk might bring in some extra mixing work.

The room is looking great ! you did good

Yeah Divided by 13 FTR37 love it!

Thanks for input Steve getting 2 machines, 1 extra for spare parts and a tech who doesn't mind flying to Hawaii seems like a good plan!

If anyone knows of any good deals on solid tape machines keep me in mind.

Seti,

If I may ask: Why did you put the patch bay in the desk, instead of some 'critical listening gear' ?

Looking great!

Cheers

MCI's you have to be carful with the molex connectors. Otari's are work horses, so are Studer 827's which are pretty great sounding decks. But maybe I'm missing something but how many inputs do you have with the tonelux? If you're going to run
a PT rig and either a 2" or a Radar you need more inputs unless I'm missing something.

Well I don't have as much Tonelux gear as I would like and it was a way to
get rid empty space on the desk for now. Eventually
when I load up the Tonelux the patchbays are going on the right side
either on a 2nd wing rack or mounted on the back wall.

Seti808 thanks for the up date.
You can put the pic inside an [ IMG ] tag to display it fully size- as I did above.
Not sure this will make Jules very happy if we all do this though.

You brought up something I have been meaning to talk about.

I got the Tonelux from Vintage King along with a gear package.
Jeff Ehrenberg took care of me big time! I asked a ton of stupid questions
and went over all kinds of possible scenarios, which he went
above and beyond to help me come up with a custom package
that worked for me.

Thanks Jef!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have done gear packages with most of the other
guys in the past and I’m not taking anything away from
them because they were great too. The big reason I went
with Vintage King this time was they were a one stop shop
for Consoles, vintage gear, cables and support for the whole package etc...

I was told some things were on back order and that I had to wait
for some things but that was no big deal, I did the order many months before my studio was done so everything got here when they said it would.

I had a great experience with Vintage King and I highly recommend them!
