Sound Affects Music Ormskirk - Build Diary

I already started a thread on this, but realise I have it sort of in the wrong place, so I'll leave that one going for the gear and general etc, and keep this one to the photos of the build - hope thats ok??

This is a new facility in Ormskirk, Lancs UK. Building started yesterday - so 1st couple of photos. We are aiming for a 5 week build (gulp). This includes:

7 teaching Rooms
Drum Room
Live Room
Control Room

Pretty low budget equipment.

I'll keep posting photos and I have set up a time lapse camera so should get some interesting video footage as it progresses.

Good to hear this is going up in Ormskirk, gives the locals a different option to Manchester or Liverpool!

Cheers

Week two - half way through - the control room walls are taking shape.

I think the window form the control room through to the live room is too big/low - any thoughts?

Cheers
Tim

Like the timelapse! Good job. Normally the window starts at +/- 850mm from the ground.

Taken yesterday:

1) Increased height of window to control room.
2) Live room, with studs being assembled
3) First fix electrics going into teaching rooms - build day 9

Cheers

A note for anyone looking at this build for construction details, the below image shows a common oversight:

The 2 layers of soundbloc board, between the brick and stud, are not needed, see Triple Leaf Effect

Simply, a block wall with a single stud wall spaced off it (2x plasterboard facing into room) would be as good, if not better due to the larger cavity.

Yes we found this when trialling windows. A lot of studios swear by 3 panes of glass and others by 2 and in testing we found 2 to actually be better as it meant 1 big cavity rather than 2 small cavities which cumulatively have less volume than the 1 big cavity.

What will you do with that extra ceiling space? Massive attic / store room?
