Thanks for the kind words!!
This is by far the hardest thing I've ever done. It's taxing physically and emotionally. I'll be glad when it's over, honestly.
here we go with the control room:
Ceiling going in:
I didn't really get any shots of the HVAC boxes or the lighting can assembly.
The HVAC boxes are similar to the ones built in the other room.
The lighting for the control room is going to be all surface mount fixtures. But we had to install recessed cans so when the room goes back to being an office whenever we leave, they will basically just have to zip out the drywall for the lights and put the sleeves in. We basically cut the holes in the first layer of drywall and didn't cut them in the second. Hence, no need to build boxes around them. The sound isolation in this room isn't as critical as the live room anyway, so......
ceiling done, taped and mudded. 2 layers of 5/8" drywall with GG:
Here's a half-assed drawing of what the room dimensions will look like (treatment will be slightly different):
So, as per the drawing, we have to build 2 partition walls. One to seal off a window/outside wall, and one to section off a storage area.
First partition going up. And, BTW, any time you can use metal studs as opposed to wood, DO IT!!! MUCH easier than dealing with wood, and faster.
First wall going up, 2 layers 5/8" + GG
(plus the bonus plumbers crack shot ):
Second wall going up:
Insulation (sucks):
I didn't get any shots of drywall going up on the walls, we were just trying to get it done. It took 4 days to do this phase (from acoustic ceiling/bare walls to where we are now):
First coat of paint:
Looking from the side storage/staging area into the control room: |

I suspect that once we're done we'll get to work with him here fairly often.
And yeah, hit us up when you come to town and we'll grab a drink.

How's it sounding?
Also, would those wooden slat (resonators) cause problematic reflections?

The slot reso panels are actually quite the opposite of problematic. First of all they're angled to reflect to the back of the room, and the slats actually add a bit of diffusion.
I'm not going for a really dead CR. thats what I had at my last place and I didn't like it. I'm trying to keep this one a little more balanced.
One thing that is noticeably different in this room compared to my last place is the stereo image. Much better.

Great
I completely missed that they were angled! In that case, no problemo

Will you be adding any diffusion to the rear wall? |

I'm using Sayers' basic room treatment design. It didn't call for any.

Lol at that...they've gone minimalist in Wales now...lost their appeal. Some of my happiest (culinary) memories were in the old orange joints. For a studio though it looks warm and inviting...kinda boutique.

per your other thread - for flutter you could add another set of angled side wall slats or scattered absorbers. on the back wall, in the large trap you could put a large slat unit behind the cloth which peaks in the middle and angles to each side-corner trap.

I threw up 3 more 2x4 high freq absorbers on the back side walls. Helped a little, but not 100%. Taking apart the back panel will be quite a job, I couldn't do it anytime soon.
I still need to REW the room to see what's really going on.
I'm thinking about doing the whole wall/ceiling corner on the sides the length of the room in a corner trap type as well.

WOW. I admire you! You wanted it, you went for it. No hesitation, no stalling, and it worked out really well! It looks really cool, and it must sound great

Beautiful work, guys! Can you give us a rough summary of your costs (material) and the total weeks it took you to build this?

I'm going to say the whole project cost between 15-18k (not including any gear, just the buildout). I could probably tell you more definitively after tax season.
It was a pretty small budget, but we didn't go into debt on anything, so it worked out ok.
