Give the guy your opinion on the layout rather than question my answer that is already given.

Some measures look a bit small to me.
Maybe you should think if you really need so many rooms.

Billy, may I first say that there are a number of highly experienced studio designers who post here and whilst it may very well be that Erikdrink is one of them, I hasten to add that I certainly am not.

Having said that, to my inexperienced eye it seems your control room and live room are well below the recommended minimum dimensions, and from looking at your floor plan, unnecessarily so?

For example, it's hard to say exactly without knowing the ceiling height, but to me it looks as though your proposed control room is at best about 50% the size of that which is generally recognised as a minimum.

There also seems to be, to me at least, a lot of unnecessary wasted space? Again, without knowing what restrictions you have due to your building, etc, etc, one cannot be objective.

FWIW, I believe that the success of your studio, whether it be a commercial venture or purely for personal use & enjoyment, will be measured in the quality of the control room sound, and anything you do to maximise that is well & truly worth the effort.

The best suggestion I can make is to engage the services of a professional designer. They are much more affordable than you maybe think and not only will you end up with a infinitely better result, but will save you money in the long run.

My 0.02...

Good luck. Mike

Hi Mike,

The studio will be build from scratch but 12x6 is the max. I can go.
Ceilings in live room will be the underneath of the roof ( 3m walls to 4,5m at the top in the middle) and the other rooms will be 3m, sloped in the CR.

The studio will be for personal use mainly, if there's demand to rent it, I might consider that aswell.

Seems to me that there are a lot of potential flaws in there. Doesn't look like a design from a professional studio architect.

Actually, the space is nice (my available space to work in is 12x6x3,6m3), but by far not large enough for all the different rooms you are trying to squeeze in there.

My advice (which is what I did myself and am extremely happy with the results) is to contact a pro designer (I hired Thomas Jouajean from Northward Acoustics in Brussel) and discuss you're requirements with him.
You will get much better results and also not unimportant (trust me on this one), you will save money.

Good luck with your project,
Dirk

Hey Dirk,

Groeten,
Dirk

i agree with previous post, from my experience control room seems to be too small, also i would get rid of iso booth/the other small room/vocal booth to have larger live and control rooms. you can still get very good vocals recorded in live room with simple extra acoustic treatment. basically i would go for 1 control room and 1 living room.

Seems like the only entrance to the control room is through the vocal booth.
Might be a bit impractical in sessions...
Nobody can get in or out of the control room if someone is singing there.

+1 for speaking to Thomas Joun-jean at Northward Acoustics (he is also working on my place). He will really help you maximise the space you have.
