| Gear nut | Red Feather Studio build
This is a little late but I wanted to share. Finished the build out a couple months ago and am really pleased with the results. Though I would share and get a little feedback. First off this was a basement studio build out. My wife and I purchased a house and she allowed me free reign of the basement. A total of just over 500 sqft. I divided the space into 2 rooms and a hallway coming off the garage so I could stay undisturbed while working. the live room is rather skinny but it works for me at 7.5'W x 9'H x 20'L and the control room is 10.5'W x 8'H x 17'L. There is also a small closet I plan to turn into a small booth mainly for guitar amps when I need it. Also I built the racks next to my desk. They have plenty of room for expansion. But anyway here is what I have done so far. |

This looks very nice! How long did the build take you? Did you do it yourself, or hire a contractor?

There is also double drywall on the wall between the cr and live room on the live room side the full length of the room. I also made that a staggered stud wall. I had a budget and stuck to it. I think it turned out really well for having never done any work like this before. I still have some future upgrades like adding another layer of drywall to the rest of the live room walls and when we redo the floors on the main level of the house doing something to help with the isolation a bit. | |

So I will soon be adding a cloud above my mix position. I've been brainstorming on design (I've seen lights and really cool clouds here). So I'm wanting to utilize the recessed space in the ceiling to hang it in. Question1. Should I angle it (and if so should it angle facing the back or front of the room) or flush mount it? The recess is 12" deep so there would still be room behind even a 6" trap. Question 2. Should I place it directly above the mix position or over the desk between the speakers and mix position? In the end I want it to be basically built in. I can hang it if that would yield better results. Thoughts? |

you're a man after my own heart. find a way to make it happen, even if you don't have all the money in the world to throw at it .
