The Sound Distillery Recording Company Kitchener Ontario

Hey Guys,
I've been involved in renovating a studio space from a rather sterile/dingy white walled space into a space with a cool, warm, and inviting vibe.
I've posted some photos on my facebook (link below) feel free to check it out. I'll be going through with a decent camera in the next few days and as high quality photos get taken for website, press etc Ill post them.
So far my gear list is as followed. Keep in mind my partner and I in this are recent graduates from College though a bit...older (27 and 30) so our equipment may not the greatest but it is a decent start I think.

Interfaces

Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56 PRO
Avid Digidesign 003+R
8 Channels of Universal Audio HD192 Audio

Plug-Ins

Waves Silver Bundle
SSL Classic Consoles
Jack Joseph Puig Analog Legends
Tony Maserati Collection
McDsp Emerald Collection
Universal Audio UAD2

Mic Pre-Amps

API 3124+
Avalon 737 SP
Neve 1072 (2)
Golden Age 72MKII (Neve 1072 Clone)
Universal Audio 4710D w/1176 compression in line

Dynamics

DBX 160X (2)
DBX 160 XT
DBX 266XL
Empirical Labs EL8 Distressor

Microphones

AKG D112
ART M-Five Ribbon (2)
Neumann TLM103 (2)
Neumann U87
Rode NT5 (4)
Rode NT1 Mic
Sennheiser e906
Sennheiser 421 (2)
Shure Beta 52
Shure SM57 (4)
Shure SM7b

I know our interface/converters ARENT the highest quality. It's something we had to sacrifice unfortunately.

Anything you can see at the moment that is a glaring 'WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?'

We haven't treated the rooms yet. Still in the hammer and nails/decorating phase.

From experience I would say make sure you use as much budget as possible on the acoustic room treatment, as you can always add gear later. You never want to have to tackle a bad room near the end of the project when everything else is in. Also monitors you trust are crucial. Good luck guys...

Hey guys
Here's my modest start. Recently graduated from fanshawe (a year and a half ago) decided to save my pennies and put it into this place instead of doing the intern route.

Take care will

Hey will, SD looks great!

When are you at the studio. I'm in Guelph, would love you meet you, and if possible, check out the studio?

Let me know.

AceSpec, my hours at the studio are all over the place. I'm still working my 9-5 while building, and recording. Im in BC actually at the moment on some much needed vacation time.

dmilt23451, my business partner had the fab shop he has access to cut out our logo into a piece of butchers block, he then torched it right infront of them to their shock! It turned out great eh!

Any thoughts about the studio otherwise?

Have you managed to do any acoustic measurements? I've noticed that you haven't got any acoustic treatment up. I could foresee the second glass window on your right being problematic for high frequencies and mess up some of your localizing ability.

Looks nice though.

Hey!
We designed the space with comfort and functionality in mind. We're in a smallish market where people tend to drive and hour east to Toronto or west to London for recording. Or just hole up in a basement and are disappointed in the results. We figure let's blend the both worlds.
I haven't ran any tests but my favourite studios in Ontario are those that aren't 100% perfect (Bathouse and the woodshed) there's little things in the room that help but I don't think well be going for perfection so long as the final product sounds good.

Hey guys
We have a few things on the go already. The reception has been amazing !
The mixer is an old Allan and Heath board we were given to us from a church I believe who were upgrading their system. We use it for headphones, checking mixes on iPods etc. Plus it looks cool!
