| Gear interested | Phonographic Studio Build
Hi all, This is such a great forum and resource for anyone who knows nothing to find out how to know most things regarding a studio. It has helped me so much already. I have decided to post my studio build as I go along, like most of you, and hope it inspires, helps and documents. As with every studio, budget and benefit are the two things that must balance. I registered my business in March 2011 and have just found a space to move into. It is a room in an open plan office space. It has basically no sound proofing at all except it looks like the drywall that separates me and the office as some IM475 insulation in it. Not sure though. The door might as well not be there at all because there are so many gaps that it makes little difference. My objective is to use what I have and make it into a space that will be commercially viable and at the same time spend as little as possible on it. Firstly I decided not to do a big soundproofing job. It is just too much to spend on this tiny space. But I do need to make some sort of effort to reduce the spill into and out of the studio. So this is what I have decided to do.
I am done with all the planning and have already acquired some of the materials for the job. More posts to follow... |

Found this door at Ross Demolition in Cape Town. I think it is an old bank door. Its solid and already has a window built in.

Now its time for the sound conditioning. I put IM475 against the walls on the inside and then made cloth covered frames to seal them in. |
