This is the first time i actually have the opportunity to transform an area [garage] which i will use as my studio. It is my first build and i have read a little and had some assistance with certain layouts, but everything does ultimately rely on budget and i have done my best to better this space with whatever funds i have available to me at the time. i thought i would share this with you guys - though i know i might be making slight mistakes being my first build - so not all things may look like its by the book, but i have commissioned a builder/handyman to see me through this build and i am certain there will definitely be a huge difference in result when it is finished. i will do my best to post photos as the install goes ahead, but keep in mind i am at work during the day and the builder would be working on site while i am at work, so the bad thing is i wont be there to nit pick at things too much - though i would be visiting the area in the evenings most of the days after work and on a weekend - to take pix and touch base with the builder. i hope you enjoy having a look as much as i am enjoying the idea of having a much better room than the usual bedroom setup with nothing whatsoever done for room isolation or absorption.. this is a step by step process and we are learning.

Thread Starter | The Beginning
this is what i am starting with, a single garage with a roller door at the front, a door & window at the rear of the area. The idea is to install wooden flooring of some type which is reflective and also build a brick wall just behind the roller door so that we can have a solid door as an entrance while leaving the roller door in its place - but i do intend to install a motor onto the roller door so its automatic, and will assist in disguising the area and also being more secure. |

Thread Starter | Floors installed
the floor guy came in and installed the wooden floor on top of the concrete garage floor, but only after he used a floor levelling compound to level the floor area. ![]() We chose black at the time because he was giving it for me at a cheaper price as it was just lying around in shop for a while from a bulk buy he had for another job, so i jumped at saving money - hope its not a bad choice, coz you can tell if it needs a sweep or clean more than any other color!! |

Thread Starter | New Window
A friend of mine was nice enough to install a new window frame and a 12mm thick laminated glass window for no cost at all! - how cool is that?! ![]() the old window was like the standard 3-4mm thick glass which is used in domestic windows these days.. yukk! I picked black aluminium window frame as the wooden floor boards were black so something will match! ps.. i would have rather had 18-20mm thick laminated glass but he didnt have any offcuts that were available, but nevertheless what a beautiful and kind gesture to help a mate out just to help me save a little.. |

rockwool arrives - or "earthwool" as this brand is called with a 3.5 rating which is not too bad at all! steel/aluminium framing also came in today; so we can frame not so much a room within a room = but something close or similar in a way. |

Thread Starter | adjoining wall to house
the builder thought he would rip out the existing plasterboard as my walls had no insulation in them [whomever built the place was a cheap tight *&%] - this adjoining wall is shared by 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the other side, so i think it was a good idea to rip them out and just insulate them to begin with. Then his thoughts were to frame on top of it and then add more rockwool again and finish it off with a 20mm thick drywall [plasterboard/Gyprock] on top of that, it sounds good to me! especially for that adjoining wall. |

Thread Starter | ceiling isolated
i thought i would share the proposed ceiling detail with the framing that was done, i think its about 200-300mm gap between the proposed ceiling and existing which will also be rockwool'ed or earthwool'ed like the walls.. hopefully more to come soon! |

Looking good! I don't know if it's too late, but it might be a good idea to rip out the rest of that sheetrock on the existing wall you stuffed insulation into, to avoid a triple leaf effect after the inner wall sheetrock is hung.

Simple explanation for the upside down images... You are posting from down under to the English forum. ![]() Interesting build, will be watching the progress.
