Starting the job. Wanted the ceiling red, but also painted the walls......like a dummy...since most of it will be covered. Doh! Also removed carpet and put in Allure flooring. Beginning on the rear wall.

Of course you do realize watching my studio build after Clueless' studio build will be like watching a small tool shed being built right after watching the Taj Mahal being built.

More photos coming tomorrow hopefully. I have to say that Mr. Brandt has been EXTREMELY helpful, as I am quite the novice at doing all this stuff. Our real-time Skype conversations have been priceless to me.

Stunning landscape................must be good being you.

More updates:

There will be red trim when completed

I decided not to be cheap and switched to rockwool, the good stuff, and will never go back. It is soooo much easier to cut and fit vs. regular insulation.

My wife reamed me for not matching the color on the switches so I will be fixing that.

Not today! Advice to other novices building a studio- go very slow and ask many, many questions. I just learned of a big error that I made with my rear wall and had to take it all apart down to the framing tonight. It's only going to cost me a day or 2, but it sure can be defeating. I am glad, though, that the problem was discovered via talking with Mr. Brandt before I got the entire thing done.

I go sleepy now.......zzzzzzzzzz...............

Ok, more updates- My carpenter friend was to busy to help in the time-frame I needed , so I decided to spend $500 and bought myself some really nice tools at Home Depot. I'm very proud of what I have done considering that my only carpentry experience was 30 years ago in Junior High School shop class.

I still have to install the front hanging batts, then I can close it all up.

I am installing this plastic tubing as to have all my cables to to the adjacent room to place my computer in. This room will be silent!

Nice work! Every project is an excuse to buy more tools.

Our dogs get depressed when I build stuff. They want all the attention.

Quantum 7,

The room is really coming along.........and really does look great.

It would have been interesting to get some before and after measurement.

The one pic keeps catching my I though. The extension from your electrical outlet. Is that the slack from the wire that was inside the wall and you pulled it to your new receptacle location? Or did you splice through the front of the box and used painters tape as a cover-plate?

Just wondering. If it is a splice in the box, which I hope is tight, the pvc boxes will burn if there is a problem but will not support combustion.......nor would a pvc cover plate. If you're using the tape as a cover plate and there is a problem, that problem may extend to your new framing.

Again, it's looking great, but adding some 20 cent plastic covers might be a consideration.

One more thing for the next studio (or other project)....... they make new work boxes so the framing around the old work box would not be necessary.

Very cool.........nice work!

Hi Rich,

I used romex to extend the wires. I also put plastic covers over the original boxes (covers with a hole for the romex to go through). The only original outlet box that I used tape on was the one pictures. That was due to my framing going right across it. Now you have me concerned, though. I hope there will be no problem with that one outlet. Thank God that the rockwool I am using is 100% fireproof at least.

More updates:

The back wall is coming together. Still have to ad all the red slats over the corner bass traps. When complete I will have all red trim including baseboards and ceiling crown molding

I will do solid black fabric here which will be under the upcoming red slats.

A very tidy build. You can be proud of your work.

As an aside, looking at your photos of Boise, I can't believe the similarities with Omarama in NZ's McKenzie Country! Extraordinary!

Good luck. Mike

Thanks for sharing - looks great! Great pictures... I could really understand the build. What error did you make with the rear wall?

I had forgot the MLV (mass load vinyl) that was supposed to go behind the rockwool, and I forgot the airspace I needed between the MLV/rockwool and the original drywall. I guess I was to much in a rush to get it done. I'm doing much better now that I have slowed down....much easier to think things through.

Everything looks GREAT Q, keep it up and dont give up!

I wish the chapters of my journey had been a little bit more like yours... but i didn't get to know Mr Brandt until somewhere in the middle of my build, so congrats on that!

I'm soon to be finished however, so i won't let that nag at me... Besides, like the 'old' song goes: "A little Brandt is better than nada..."
