64ch AMEK APC1000 Full Studio Build

I just thought I would post some pics of my studio build. We are rebuilding the whole place from the ground up and installing a AMEK APC1000 64ch with GML bought from Hyde St. I figured everyone would get a kick out of this considering I'm installing a 14ft console in my living room. I'm 22 and this has been the biggest project of my life. :D

The live room is 22x24 with arched 16ft wood ceilings with beams. It sounds great. We are also building a second live room, and I will start posting pics in a few days, as well as treating the control room. IT NEVER ENDS!!! :0

How come you get to do this when you are still only 22? Rich parents? Had a major hit song?
And that's a lot of space for a living room

Could you tell us some more about this console?

One APC1000 was discussed here earlier.

My APC started out at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, ALOT of work was done on it "Tom Petty, Neil Young, Poison, Tupac, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix remixes, Lita Ford, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and about 50 others I don't really feel like typing. It also did a bunch of films at sunset "The FIrm, Lethal Weapon II, Wayne's World II, etc. After its time at Sunset, it moved to Hyde Street in SF. Now its here at my house in Glendora CA.

And of course the recall does not work just like the rest of these APC's.

And yeah!! That's Steve, he's a great guy and he knows the APC in and out. He's actually my tech. : )

To get a bank loan for that much @ 22....... you need rich parents.
Nothing against you alex, just trying to figure out how a lad of 22 gets to have all this etc....?????????

Does it matter? Ultimately probably not.

What the FCUK does it matter where he got the money from???

Get used to the stupid comments on here! It comes with the territory when you have a big room and a big console!

I say, good luck! I hope your room is amazing and very busy.

OK, I'm sorry. It just seemed strange/interesting to me, and I guess I felt a tiny bit of envy. But I guess it was impolite to ask about it..

Keep making decisions like using Steve and you'll do well. I remember admiring his installation. In particular his tilt bays; REALLY nice, clean work. I don't know your level of expertise and would not want to assume you need ANY advice, but if it were ME, I'd listen carefully when Steve's around.

You mentioned the 'recall doesn't work'. The GML? I was given the name Tom Schlum some time ago as THE GML resource. I ended up not getting GML auto so I have not experience with Tom. But I trust the person who recommended him as few others. Last known to be working in or around Vegas but again that was 3-4 years ago. Perhaps someone else here will know how/where to contact him if you need a GML auto tech.

Yeah I was actually thinking about setting up a room mic while Steve was here. LOL! The recall is in the console computer.. its not really the GML. :/

Gotcha; my mistake. You clearly said 'recall' (Amek) the first time and for some reason I picked up on the GML auto.

Good luck!

Damn, that console is a thing of beauty...
The patchbay is just a classic. You can tell the Sunset Sound provenience just by the looks of it. Very similar to the patchbays of the custom API/DeMedio consoles in their studios 1 and 3...

Here's two pictures I took in 2009. I can't believe they took Studio D apart, it is almost a shame. But hey, their loss, your gain...
Do you have any idea where the outboard gear went? I remember the had some pretty nice stuff in the racks - a pair of Bluestripes and an original LA-2 (not LA-2A).

Man...... Those are some good pics. It brings memories back. You should have seen that room when we ripped the APC out of there.. Very intense.. I guess from what I know a lot of that outboard gear went to their main room downstairs as well as Michael Wards home studio he's building. I have been trying to get them to sell me some of that gear ever since I bought the APC from them.. Hyde Street Studios is such an amazing place full of great people.
