there used to be a picture of Rod Hui standing on top of the greene street apc 1000. Rod mixed a song for me on that console, and I spent the day there, that was an amazing room.

I can see if I can dig out the broschure later this week.

I seem to remember that there was a couple of very sexy photos in it

Gotcha! He's your son or nephew, and you have created together this story of the plane bags...

When I was 22 I had a Poly800, an Atari and a Casio RZ1 in my bedroom -which was just as big as a bedroom is supposed to be- and I called that my home-studio. I also had a Fostex 4 track deck which even wasn't mine. But I learnt a lot whit all that crap, so cannot imagine what you can do with a real studio at home.
Congratulations, great place, you have the equipment and the age to become a great music-man in all the senses -if you are not by now-. A lot of us are like 20 years late...I'm glad of seeing young people who understands the new times and adapt to them, having an incoming business at hand...
A last advice if you don't mind: take care of your ears and you will be undoubtely a number one. When the clients ask you to play the mix at stupid levels, say them you have to go to the toilette. In fact, listening from the toilette your mixes is a good habit...
Good luck.

I know..... The screws to take the arm rest off are stripped. I need to get a reverse drill bit to get them out. I will do this soon. : )

There are some really knowledgeable people here on this forum. So some fun background here would be an awesome read.

At the time this desk was made and sold, how many other large console manufacturers were around? And how many of these APC 1000's were sold? What other AMEK's were sold at this time.

What were the unique sellingpoints today?
What aftermarket stuff was sold for these?
Is any of that available today?

What knock off preamps are made today?

The APC came out around 1988. It was AMEK's answer to SSL. The APC is known mostly because of two things-

1. its EQ which I have to say is my favorite EQ I have ever used

2. because it was one of the first consoles to have moving faders

There were 7 APC 1000's made in the world, most were commissioned in Asia other then the one at Green St, and Sunset Sound. Mine was from Sunset, and it was probably the best one made due to the fact it has 48ch of kepex II dynamics, and most the others did not. Mine also has a 1/4 patch bay and the others had TT, it also has mogami wiring through every audio path unlike the others. Sunset spared no expense!!

As far as I know, there are two left running today including mine, which is really sad cause it is such an awesome desk and it was SO ahead of its time.

Fun fact, the design and R&D of this console almost made AMEK go bankrupt.

Yeah dude, I'm right above Arrow Hw between Grand and Glendora ave! My house was built in 1955 so it was here. Back then there were a lot more orange groves and it was a nicer area.

mr. alex,

full envy, full pride. i'm glad that someone is still pursuing the analog dream... get some tape in there!..1/4" 2 track, 1/2" 2 track, 2" 16 track...whatever! and maybe a plate reverb, and some analog echo/delay... and you can have an all analog signal path, like toerag!

do have somebody like bob hodas tune your room...
