room sounds incredible with the treatments. the booth sounds amazing as well. i have a few more bass traps to build but the layout of the room sounds very good. it was tough before the treament came, but WOW the difference the panels make is huge. every instrument in that room sounds great. even drums. i was very surprised the ambience i can achieve in a room thats not huge! thanks for the input and compliments guys! any more feed back would be amazing |

Nice build! Where in NJ are you located? Will you be opening up to the public or is this just for your personal projects?

Emmy great job.. one question.. Did you lay any rock wool in the ceiling of the drum room. I see that you plan on traps for the walls.. was it enough? An area of concern may be your cymbals and any high end coming back off the ceiling.. Do some recordings of drums with/without ceiling treatment. It may make a diffrence and clean up the cymbals. Let us know what works best for you.

Even though that drum room is not that big, having those obscure angles is- I am sure, helping tremendously to cut down on buildup of bad frequencies..

Thread Starter | you are 100% right. im no professional. im actually 21 years old and hand built everything myself. i did research here on GS and thanks to you guys i made my design. I think the obscure "diamond shape" looks good as well makes a smaller room sound much better ESP with the room treatments. i built the bass traps myself out of owens corning 703 2" and 4". the ceiling that im finishing up now is obscure and uneven as well. it goes from 7' to 8 1/2' all through out the top. it has owens corning in the joists and covered by 5/8 in dry wall. do you think a double layer is necessary? the room is pretty sound resistant. id say a good 80-85% of sound is absorbed in the walls. now the ceiling is the only thing thats im fixing up. im sure the insulation will eat up the excess noise but any advice would help me out. again, im no professional. im 21 and building by myself. the possitive feedback makes me feel like i did a job well done so far. i want to eventually be a producer, mixer, and studio owner so this is my first step! any pro advice would be amazing. if you want room test graphs ill post them up too

this is a very rough mix of how the room sounds. i figured some of you guys would like to hear how the small angled room sounds with treatments.. keep in mind ceiling still not completely done but i decided to get some tests anyway. badcat cab-gibson les paul surpreme, orange rocker100, ESP ...1960b cab.... pearl custom kit, sm57,sm81, etc...into symphony i/o... ITS ROUGH! but its still a pretty good test IMO.. btw the band is named brave new world. they are really good and will be recording their record with me. this test was primarily for the drums thats why the guitars are so low. just catching the little extra reverb on the set too but besides that lemme know what you guys thinkmatt |

I gotta stop entering this forum. I don't even have a house or space yet and I've already got major plans for renovation. lol Nice build, man. Can't wait to hear some dry and finished tracks when it's all done.

besides treatment under the dry wall on the ceiling, would anyone recommend some sort of cloud on top too? for more absorption? or is it enough under one sheet of 5/8th acoustic drywall. thanks again

sharp looking spot! Seems like a great sounding room and a good cut. Out of curiosity what tracks had the CLA76 on them?
