anybody know what kind of door should be used in the booth. solid wood? storm door with glass? i know it should be like another wall, but is wood or glass better for sound proofing?

It's not about the material..

Mass = everything.

Basically, your door should be of equal mass as the wall it is attached to is. People favor glass for the obvious benefit of being able to see through it, but wooden doors often come considerably cheaper. If you think about a glass door, it most probably should be 1/2" - 3/4" thick - and of course per door in a double door setup - so it comes at a pretty hefty cost.

Ofcourse, I'm no expert in acoustics or studio design / building, but the basics I know say that. Someone may feel free to correct me.

You're welcome..

I don't know if you already are a member at John Sayers' forum, but there's a really good topic on doors in the Studio Construction sub forum. Loads of good info there!

Sounds good. I'd personally like to hear a little more roominess on the kick. Blending a good kick room sample with the track usually sounds better than adding reverb IMO. The kick sounds nice and clear, but a little too clear for my tastes.

Also, one of your snare samples is misaligned at 1:48 in the file you posted. You can hear the comb filter.

I really liked your tones though! Congrats on the new studio!

i will get a rough mix up tomorrow on one of the songs hopefully..! and thank you i know the sample was a tadd off. i didnt bother to fix it just for a test. i watched a video of using beat detective to cut up the transients and manually place a sample at each cut. not bad for the first attempt. im gonna go back and make sure its all lined up tomorrow. thanks guys!

Room Tests!

whats up guys... i did a room calibration test this morning using room EQ wizard. i dont have an actual calibration mic, i i figured id use a mic with a flat frequency response such as my shure sm81. i will make my way over to radio shack later today to pick up an real frequency cal. mic to do some further tests but i figured id post my results so far. seems like a big null around 180... what should be done ... more bass traps? i have plenty owens corning 703 4" thick left so i dont mind building more. i just want to make sure that more bass traping will cure the low end issues as much as possible with the room i have have. thanks!!!thumbsup

Sorry for the wait!

Here is a rough draft of one of the bands im working with. its only a demo but i promised you guys a test of how the room sounds with all the instrument. any feed back would be great. the song is 16bit 44.1 mp3. if anyone wants 24bit 48hz PM and ill send it over. i used a little bit of compression and some minor eq....plus a limiter to bring all the volumes up. THANKS!!!!!

Emmy, havent had a chance to listen on my big speakers, but translates well on my laptop speakers. Cant judge the bass stuff from where I am at..

Drums are a tad loud and I can here a little too much compression on the snare- especially during the sparse parts..

Overall, sounds really nice. Liking the guitars alot..

HEY! thank you. i always appreciate your input... too much compression as in too much gain reduction or attack set to fast and transients arent coming through well. i hear what your talking about def. lemme know so i can see how it sounds. most of the guitar sound is completely raw. tiny bit of compression and a HPF to take out extra rumble.. im trying my best now to capture the song at the source and not have to use any boost if i have too.

PS it also seems i forgot to mute one of the snare samples i decided not to use. it wasnt in phase and didnt want to go through each hit and move it just for a demo thats prob not gonna make it to the record. that might be what makes the snare sound over compressed....ahhhhh im so mad!!
