Yeah. There has simply GOT to be a cheaper way. What's so special about those doors? Wouldn't a heavy duty metal door filled with sand and the appropriate hinge work and sealant stripping achieve the desired results? How many of those doors do you need to be able to see through?

There is a good company in the Netherlands that builds these special doors. You should be able to get what you want for way way less than that 74k. Company in the NL is called Merford.

They are pretty ****ing special. Whether they are $9000 a piece special is another story. Doors are almost always the weak link in isolation at most studios I've worked in.

These guys are used to selling to BIG construction projects (arenas, theaters, broadcast facilities, etc) where their bill seems like "pennies" compared to the other invoices coming in.

I'd lean on them HARD and be fully prepared to walk away and see what they can do to that price. I wouldn't be surprised if, in this economy, you could get them down by 20-30%.

This is true, but I'm getting these estimates from my studio designer guy who has used them numerous times before (they probably have 40 of these in Blackbird if not more). He may end up building his own and use double-door systems. Still weighing options....

I'm always glad to get this notification.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you tackle the roofs on these rooms.

Yep, messy stuff, but you´ll get some serious sound isolation going between those walls. Looking good!

Greetings,

Yeah, it's been a bunch of waiting for one guy to finish so the next guy can start. Once the walls are all the way and the floors are poured, seems like everyone can start work at the same time from HVAC to electrical to audio wiring to framing, etc.

My Recordings/Credits

Definite WTF moment.

Well, at least you know you can immediately cross "Dean J. Guidry" off your list of possible "entertainment lawyers"!

Love the build thread so far - image #894 you posted today, the overhead shot, really gives me a sense of how you're using the space! Hope to record there someday.

Isn't it awesome to know that there are lawyers out there that only care about what's best for you and your studio?

I just threw up in my mouth.

Hey you prick

Hey to the ambulance chasing prick below-

We've put an insanely expensive studio up in Liverpool in the UK- Maybe I can pay you to come over and audit our books ? Maybe you want to bring a sleeping bag- hang on mate- bring a F**KING shovel as well- you'll need it when we drag you out to Delamere and put you in the ground ;-)

HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA

AWESOME WORK MATT- KEEP ON DIGGING ..EEEERRRR SORRY - I meant working :-) XXXXXXXXXXX

Andy

"To my friend in music:

Your studio build is insanely expensive and world class. I hope you sharpened your pencil (old school texting device) when you calculated profitability. I just don't see it in this day and age. We just put together a studio in a home with great acoustics and a digital interface in the $3000 range that has blown me away in terms of sonic resolution, etc, etc. Hope you do well but I think you won the lottery or you're a 1%..er. All of that stuff will not fit in an iPhone speaker...you get the point.

I do a little entertainment law if you need that, but mostly collections if someone doesn't pay or you get shafted on producer points.

Good luck.

It gets even better:

My response: "Dude... that's the second message I've gotten from you about how little faith you have in the studio's ability to turn a profit. Thanks for the naysaying, could you possibly be any ruder? I don't even KNOW YOU. "

Assbag part 2: "Matt:

Oh, didn't remember that. Good to know I'm consistent. I check out gearslutz every once in a while where I saw your posts on the build. I'm stunned by your bold move to build this. I'm just saying I would never, but sometimes it takes dreamers like you to prove the rest of us were wrong. I wish you well.

The only financial rationale I could come up with for your build is you have a trust account or your fly is wealthy. If that's the case, then you give many struggling studios and engineers false hope. It can't be that you expect to be constantly booked at premium prices. When I get solicited by studios like Blackbird in Nashville for overdubbing crumbs you know it's ready, really bad. Just sayin'......"

Why the **** is it anyone's business how or why I am building this? Maybe I just really REALLY love music and want to help preserve the art of recording. Maybe making money is just icing on the cake for getting to do what I love the most and something I'm actually passionate about. I can go to school and be a doctor or lawyer and then I'll have ALL THE MONEY in the world!!!! Yeah, MONEY! Asshole.

And by the way, last time I tried to take a tour of Blackbird I couldn't get in a single room because all EIGHT rooms were booked. If they aren't making money it's because McBride is a compulsive gearslut and can't stop buying cool shit, but there is definitely interest for working there.

Funny thing is - I always hear from people young and old.

"Man, I wish I was a musician" or " I wish I pursued my dream of becoming a musician"

I don't think I ever heard anyone say that they wish they pursued their dream of becoming a blood sucker.

Sure it does. Just change "music" to "money" and "the art of recording" to "my bank account".
