New studio build ideas

hello,

I am new to this forum so please tell me if this is in the wrong place.

Basically, I am 16 and my parents are thinking about building an outbuilding where our current barn is (dependant on planning permissions) that will be about 11 x 3 metres.

i have drawn up a rough CAD plan of what i hope the building will be like, but of course this will be dependant on my rents etc,

i was hoping that you guys could give me some tips and comments on what problems i might face having it laid out like this and if there would be better ways of doing it

cheers

I just wish my parents did that for me when I was 16!

Nice!! my parents never flinched if I needed a piece of gear- I learned alot about business, economic forescasts, an law having to "make a pitch" if I wanted something new, and my father and uncles were all tough as nails business/law types..and your parents are making a whole building for you! congrats.. I looked at your pics, I think a little different proportions might help- the sketches you have look like my second apt- well thought out, but slightly small for the work. check out the threads around here that give proper dimensions etc for room size a try. and welcome to the forum!!

Is there a reason why it is planned to be 11 x 3 metres? Seems like awkward dimensions to make a good layout within..

hi thanks for the replies.

just to say, my parents arent building this as just a recording studio, this is my 'wishlist'

At the moment we have a barn that is 11 x 3 and because of planning the dimensions can't change apparently, so it seems i will be stuck with 11 x 3

My parents are open to me giving them ideas and are prepared to go along with them as long as i get some advice on the best use of the space.... which is why i came here

thanks

Loose the booth.

Reduce live room window size.

Increase length of CR.

Get the door away from the back wall corner (bass traps)

Study up on isolation techniques.

If you can find the money it would probably be a good idea to pay a studio acoustics professional to give you some advice. Otherwise, make sure you read Home Recording Studio - Build It Like The Pros by Rod Gervais and look at the acoustics articles on the Realtraps and GIK Acoustics sites. It would probably also be a good idea to look at the John L Sawyers forum as well as doing more research here.
