Thank you! And the story isn't near over yet. I still have some ideas for the lights, the back shelves are yet to be done.. And I need to wire up the side rack so I can enjoy my vinyl collection in the studio.

I'm also looking for a replacement for the wife's trunk. Maybe a bigger one!

Inspiration

This thread has been one of the most inspiring ones ever. Full of positive things, great craftsmanship and inspiration.

Big thanks for all the effort of documenting and sharing with the rest of us.

I'm currently starting to build a studio in Reykjavik, Iceland and getting a close look into a project like this has been very informative and helpful.

I'm curious about your diffuser designs and builds. The ones on your side walls, what kind of diffusers are they? Easy to build?

Best from Copenhagen,

I think this one still qualifies as an update to this topic - finally put my new website online today. About time, because I had a "new website will open during spring 2011" for a year at my old site!

Virtalähde Mastering

Nothing much has changed except I added some NTP & Neumann modules to my chain:

Hi Helgi,

sorry for not spotting your reply earlier.

I don't know what the design is called on the side walls, but they're easy to build. The design looks basically like this from the top:

Code:
#        #
#        #
#U  UU  U#
#UZZZZZZU#
#### = 75mm x 25mm wood
UU = 45mm x 25mm wood
ZZZZZZ = 100mm x 25mm wood

Or thereabouts.

Yes, great place indeed!

What are your thoughts about the Neumann EQ?
I see these a lot in vinyl cutting rooms....but they hardly ever use them, at least not when I'm around ;-)

I think they're perfect for some things. I have the NTP's and Neumanns installed in a way that I can choose either (or none) of them. I use either one in maybe 50-60% of the projects.

The Neumanns (modified for 1dB steps) excel in the lows and in the highs. The low end has an excellent thump factor to it. If I need bass, it's right there. The high end is great, very different to my other options but smooth and not overly detailed.

I think the lows+highs are 12dB/oct shelves. Correct me if I'm wrong. They're perfect for cutting, too. Especially for removing harsh stuff in the top end.

The midrange - it's kind of 2D sounding. I sometimes use it, when I feel my BPEQ brings "too much stuff up". The tightest Q is also really tight, and works wonders for cutting sometimes if the frequency hits the spot right.

Hehe, still no lava lamps, but the lights are actually quite perfect. I have two lamps on the back wall, and I fit daylight bulbs in there. Kind of feels like there's sunshine behind my back.

I've seen the same type of design in Fantom Studio, I wonder what our resident acoustic experts have to say about it? Do you know if it's based on some formula?

Ps. material coming your way for this thursday. I know we're in good hands.

Looks familiar. Mine are a little closer spaced though.

Hi Andy,

thanks for the nice words, much appreciated. I've had a peek on your build now and then, and it looks like a great place to work in.

If only these builds would be truly finished at some point!
