Control room, minimum size?

Hi there peeps,
I'm in the process of extending my current studio out building. At the moment the control room is situated inside, at the end of my 20ft x 15ft live room. The dimensions of my studio building.
I'm adding another room off the back of the studio, which will be 16ft x 6ft. I'll also be cutting into the live room and using some of it's space for the control room. So the width of 6ft can be extended. My question is.. are there minimum dimensions for professional control rooms? I once heard that any distance should be no less than 11ft. Any advice would be well appreciated.
Many thanks,
Nick.

That isn't a simple question. It depends on the shape, other dimensions, angles of walls, construction and materials used. Do yourself a favour and pay a professional acoustician to design the room. There are only a few that really know their onions. After extensive research I went with Thomas at Northward Acoustics.

This is not a photo thread...it's a studio building and acoustics thread. Please move this over to there. Then, go read Recording Studio Design by Philip Newell. His book will tell you the truth. What you do with that truth is your own business.

Roger D'Arcy

Acording to Roger the ideal shape for the room should be that every wall projects away from the monitor speakers, this includes the ceiling.

Incidently that is how my new room is being constructed.
