Frames for inner walls are constructed. They will be built flat on the floor (1 layer 12.5mm fire rated gypsum, RW3 Rockwool, then 2 layers 12.5mm gypsum with green glue between on outside.)

Forgot to post the designs.....oops! Heres some rough sketches to show you the layout and how I've used the materials. The inside of the inner room will measure:

Length: 4.65m
Width: 3.20m
Front wall height: 1.89m
Rear wall height: 2.21m

The inner ceiling slopes from front to back, the outer ceiling is flat. I'm hoping this will create a little bass trapping at the front (in the larger cavity between the inner and outer ceilings) and help a little with floor to ceiling standing waves...yet to prove it though!

Sections of wall being made. The outer layer of 2 boards and green glue is screwed while the section of wall is flat, the wall will then be erected in place, then the Rockwool added and the inner layer of boards screwed on.

6x2 beams fixed. Board will then be screwed up to the underside of the ceiling, then Rockwool placed above this, and the final 2 layers of boards and green glue screwed down.

This is the outer roof. It is created in sections, and will be slid on to the block walls with the board on the underside. Then Rockwool will be added, and a final 2 layers of board and green glue added.

OK thats where we're at right now. I'm going to put some photos up from some bass traps I made for the old studio. I used some left over RW3 to fill them with, but for the new studio will be replacing with the denser Owens Corning 704

Also...heres some photos of how we did the super chunks in the old studio....new one will be done in exactly the same way. Haven't got as many pics as I would have liked here....but basically I screwed 2 vertical 2x2 bits of timber either side of the corner traps, then stapled and stretched fabric over the front.

If you want to check out what the studio I am currently working looks like, go to Audio Mixing, Mastering, Remixing & Editing Leeds - Platinum Mastering Audio Production Service. Much of the layout inside will be the same.

Actually, this will not trap any bass and can possibly make standing wave problems worse. The only reason to slant a ceiling or wall is to reduce flutter echo and it should be done with light material (acoustics facade) so that you have trapping behind as well.

Cheers,
John

oops...well too late now, we'll just have to see what the tests say! What could cause it to make standing waves worse?
