Hello Everybody, I am going to construct my studio and here is the design. This is entirely my own design so am not sure as to how well it will work.So please let me know about its accuracy. The exciting feature about this design is that the back wall opens in a cavity which is 3.5' to 4 feet wide. The Cavity in the back wall, as well as ceiling is full of acoustic hangers. The Design also incorporates Quadratic Residue Diffusers on the ceiling and side walls, Slat resonators and Acoustic reflector on the back wall .The front wall is essentially curved.Based on my research done on internet I have decided to angle side walls from 4 - 8 degrees. The ceiling is slanted between the angles 8 - 15 degrees. The height of the ceiling varies form 9 feet in the front to 14 feet at the back. I am not very much Sure about the floor (wooden vs concrete...???) The dimensions of the untreated room are 14' (Height) 17' (Width) and 19.75' (Length) in conformity with the Room Ratio 1:1.21:1.41.The Treated Room measures 9' (Height) 14' (Width) 17'(Height) after placing the plywood walls and the ceiling at angle. The Room Ratio Taken In consideration for the treated Space is 1:1.56:1.89 (I have used control room calculator from "Chris Whealy" and the modes calculator from Real Traps to do my calculations.Yet another calculator i have used to calculate the Quadratic Residue Diffusers is "qrdude") I am going for close Monitoring. Thanks. |

Well, it are very crude drawings so.... it might work..?... not sure about the reflection lines though.

I don't know how 'to scale' your drawing is, but if it's close, then your rays are not accurate. The one bouncing off your 'reflector' looks fudged a bit to get sound into that hole. Why are you trying to reinvent the wheel? Control room acoustics have been researched and developed for a hundred years. The hole that allows sound into your back bass trap will be tuned to whatever size hole is cut there. If you are going for a near field monitoring setup, just set up an RFZ and some broadband trapping. Some diffusion at the back wall and be done with it. If you're doing this for a fun experiment and have a bunch of money and time to experiment and tune, I'm all for it. If you're trying to revolutionize the control room in one attempt and use this room to make money in, you might want to stick to the norm. Just my opinion. Neil
