Congratulations SIXTWOFOUR ! Thank you for sharing this.
It would be very interesting if you could label the pics so we could understand better the complexity of the installation process.
One question, your main reason to change consoles was the limited bus routing capacity of the Duality ? are there other things you did not like about that console specially compared to the 9000k?
Best.

PD : if you ever get bored of your sony777 please let me know .

The duality is more or less a STRIPPED down 9000k with a built in HUI controller for Pro Tools. The 9000K is a full blown console with a computer that can do anything. The 9000K routing is so much more flexible then the Duality and the 9K sounds a million times better then the Duality.

SIXTWOFOUR,

you have a wonderful and marvelously equipped private studio, congratulations. After seeing your pictures, two things come to my mind though:

-With so much equipment and of this caliber, wouldn't have been better to built an adjacent wing to the house, fully dedicated to the studio, with a control room, tracking (if needed), wc, (well ventilated) machine room and lounge, all on the same groundfloor? It would make for a more visually relaxed place to be, with high ceilings and no stairs, with better isolation to the home and way easier to get equipment in and out.

-Do you work alone? If this is a private studio as it seems, how can you manage to work thru all those many pieces without two assistants? Resetting and recalls must be a nightmare for a single person, and that's for the 9K alone, which already has TR. Count in the rest of the equipment and it must take a morning to reset all those knobs.

I guess he works like Chris Lord Alge... sets one compressor for a task and never changes it again... just buys another one...

Thats exactly how I do it. Each particular piece of gear gets set to its own magic setting and never changes. I will use the mix of plugins, comp on console, eq on console, and then my outboard insert. To keep from changing settings on the outboard I use my line trim to vary the amount that gets sent via the insert.

As far as recall I can recall the whole 9k in about 15-20 mins MAX. So recall really isnt that bad.

Ok, I'll be forced to admit... you, sir, are a gearslut.

I have never seen anything like this before. And I have seen some nice and expensive home setups.

I'll be checking the upcoming pics for sure.

probably mixes hip-hop or dance music. not a slight on him at all, just a probable explanation for all the woofers.

Just a clarification on the mains. The are custom made by Allen Sides of Ocean Way Recording. Even though they are mains they are dead flat. Yes they get super loud and at times it can sound like a club but if you run them at really low volumes you can mix on them and they are dead accurate.

Now thats the hard part because Allen Has Gone and custom modified all the amps and crossovers. For instance the crossover is a Urei 525 that he kept the chassis and PSU and fully redesigned the crossover.

When I was reading through the pictures I noticed you referred to a series of racks as WOG

I later found that you use this anacronym as short form for Wall of Gear

May I humbly submit that you change that to Wall Of Godliness

Thanks for documenting everything so thoroughly

Cheers!!
