Thread Starter | Small control room with smaller vocal booth
Hi all, this project was based on installing acoustic panels in a previously constructed control room that included a smaller vocal booth, the major problem was that they made this two areas inside a room that was already small 13ft x 15,5 ft and 8 ft high. Also they gave some breaks to the drywalls for avoid flutter echo, but this reduced a lot of usable space from bass traps, with this configuration the made the control room area its 13 ft x 8 ft x 8 ft tall, and the vocal booth its 8 ft x 6 ft x 8 ft high so at that moment the acoustics was like the one of a bathroom. ![]() The vocal booth was to small that i couldnt take a full photo of it. |

So i made 4 bass traps of 4" by 4x8ft, 3 of them were for the control room and one for the vocal booth, also they bought like 8 foam panels of 1 1/2" and 2" that i had to use. So in the control room the 3 bass traps were placed in the wall that whould be behind the monitors to reduce bass. Becuase the low height of the ceiling we couldnt install any bass trap, so i used the 2" foam panels and hang them attaching them only in the borders so a poly absorber was formed, this was to allow this thin layer to absorb lower frecuencies. ![]() In the right wall we also installed the 2" foam for control first reflections in the mixing position, the window located at the left wall made imposible to put some absortion there. ![]() On the other side, for the rear wall and for some budget limitations two QRD diffusor of 2 x 2 ft were placed, with to polis on the sides. |

On the vocal booth all the remaining foam was installed, the 2" panels were glue directly to the walls, and for the 1 /2" panels i have to made a kind of 3D panel. Also the bass trap installed in the vocal booth helped a lot. ![]() The only problem in this booth was the ceiling, becuase all the electric points were all ready installed and the owner didnt want to move them, so the 2" foam was glue in the middle of the room. In the rest of the walls i used the 2" foam forming 2 x 2 ft panels, that were placed at 5 ft high to avoid any acoustic anomaly when recording voices. |
