A friend of mine works in a tattoo shop and they just moved to a new location and in the basement is a recording studio.

they're renting it out to me for cheap.

it was a party pad between the last time it was used as a studio and now. so theres a lot of cleaning and renovations to be done but i'm really excited.

i'm hoping to have it ready for my first client june 15.

day one. clean up.

control room as it is now

live room

Stoked new studio thread poster, haha

i have a really limited budget for renovation, but

so far i plan on

1000 USD on flooring(unless someone can convince me the concrete is fine)

room treatment, i'm going to do as DIY as i can then what i can DIY i'm going to work in to a later draft of the budget.

and tomorrow hopefully i'll be replacing the stupid humming lights with regular lights and starting on building my desk.

spit ideas at me guys, i can use all the help i can get.

Concerete is fine, wood or tile flooring is just to make the room more attractive.
Taking your 1K and hiring an acustician (im sure its less then 1K) for a great acoustic design will be a far better investment.

You can only do so much ragarding DIY design without proper study (which means reading a few fat books and spending alot of time reviewing finished projects in an attemp to achive some "virtual expirience".

alright, talked with the owners.

owner number 2 is slightly less optimistic than number 1.

so six month lease at 750/month

and i can pick work back up until i sign it on the first of may and pay first months rent and $300 security deposit.

i'm nervous, the rent is about $150 higher than i'd discussed with the other owner.

anyone have any suggestions on how make my first month as successful as possible? maybe use that extra grand i was going to use to renovate the floor on advertising?

6 days to come up with cash, high pressure. yikes.

(resizing the photos as soon as i get a minute guys)

I dont know about other people but i have had very little success on advertising. Mouth to mouth and friends of friends have been the absolute best clients so far, the ones i got through advertising has always backed out in the last second.
I'd say save that extra $1000 for future rent when you have a bad month.
