| Gear maniac | $80 16U Rack
I made this 16U rack with supplies from Lowes and a 16U rack rail I got from ebay. The plan is to make one more and have them double as monitor shelves. Now it just needs sand and stain. Took some pictures. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

good job, now you should stain the wood and maybe do a gloss over it.

nice, if you did a dark cherry to match your desk would be cool. if wanna get fancy i think lowe's also sells veneer strips that you can put on the edges so everything looks like a solid piece of wood. how long did this take you to do? |

nice job! after adding some coating to protect the wood it will be better than what you'd buy at the store!

I actually did some guessing as far as measurements... Materials: (2) 24x48 Birch panels (2) 16U rack rails (these measurements do not include the speaker shelf that rests on top) The bottom depth is 24" The top depth is 12" (Perfect for Auralex MoPads) The total height is 34" The front vertical cut is 8" (to alot for gear slant) The rack slant cut is 28.5" The easy way is to just measure 8" from the bottom edge, then place your rack rail at your desired angle and draw a line along the rail. Then just connect the tip of your new line with the other edge of your panel. (see picture #2) I left 1/2" on either side for safe measure. And of course standard rack spacing between. The easiest way to get this right the first time (IMHO) is to get 2 pieces of gear and install one at the top of the rack and one at the bottom... just to make sure you get the spacing right. |
