I would say more than enough. IF your not trying to isolate airborne and structural noise transmissions from attached rooms like other studios in your complex or not driving your nieghbors crazy. Two layers of sheet rock and a layer of sound board on a staggered stud wall is more than fine. If you have a flimsy wall from an acoustic standpoint the wall become a friggin panel absorber and all your bottom end goes away. Which sometimes isn't a bad thing

Durv please dont flame me for asking this.
I was wonderring how studios wire up things?
wall mount...through wall....then to patchbay?
do you use conduit? what if you have to replace cable due to "issues"? do you tear out the drywall/framing? or are things somewhat "accessable" with panels or something?
Not at all ! Very good question.
The audio wires that penetrate the walls run through 2" PVC conduit and the holes through the walls do not line up and every penetration is sealed up airtight...... So you have a hole say at 4" from the floor and it comes through the other side of the wall at 2' from the floor we don’t use sharp bends with the conduit just in case you have to fish another wire through. But......

You should always run extra pairs where ever you make the runs and leave extra length....

In the control room all the audio wires run in channels all covered up so they are not visible but there is easy access should we need to add more or change something.

Again run extra pairs....

As far as panels go in the live room and iso booths.... its easy to make your own Mic input panels also have a few line ins and maybe a few outputs.
My last studio had 48 Mic ins in the live room , This time I will only run 24 or maybe 32.

From the panels we run the wire to punchdown blocks and then to the patchbay.

From the outboard and multitrack the same,,, punchdown blocks then to the patchbay.

You can go directly to the patchbays but i like the punchdowns ... its easier to add more gear!! And troubleshoot.

This may have been more than you wanted to know......
But a well wired up studio will run without problems for many years

This has been a real hard decision for me............

I was / am Leaning towards a SSL 40xx G But.......

may have to wait for 2 years to see if i can justify going into debt for 100.000$

i have had a real hard time getting financed and with no real work lined up it may be a bad decision to go into debt that much right now.

I might get this console and use it until i can get a SSL

AMEK APC 1000 80 channels with GML moving faders and recall on all switching

I really have my heart set on the SSL but i may have to wait.......

The Amek would be the smart business move, since you have no clients lined up.

Mother of pearl.

Amek's don't suck though :) so you'll be fine. You'll have to find work because of you though, not cuz you "own an SSL".....

It put's hair on your chest.

Hi Steve:

I PMd you earlier and I am so curious as to the price of operating a big analog console...I am most concerned with Airconditioning/electric bill. I hear that you should never turn consoles off.....your thoughts.

Blessings!

I've been looking for new space recently, but just thinking about all the work involved makes me tired. Do you have a guess at how much it would have cost in labor to hire someone to do all the framing and sheetrock? Also, I've been reading a lot about QuietRock soundproof drywall. Anyone have any experience with it in studio construction?
